"Hitler moves East" by Paul Carrell. Not just pro-German but pro-Hitler. Still, a good primer.

I have to add my two cents worth :D I kinda liked "Stalingrad" by Pliever. Schnieder's books are great. Gotterdammerung totally kicked ass. The short story collections were excellant as well. Has any one else read "Proud Monsters?" It's a collection of about 70 vignettes. Eerie, unsettling and brill...

I really liked it. Reads fast, doesn't wallow in blood and guts. You can feel the fear and adrenalin.

Tom,
thanks for the review. My wife is Filipina, and her mom 14 at the time and family had to hide out for over two years from the Japanese. So, books about the Philippine campaign, especially guerilla types, are looked forward to. I will put this one on my list.

My good day is about 1000 dollars worth of service calls. All water heater and faucet repair. No turd herding or crawlspace diving. Walking in the door about 5 p.m. My 6 and 3 year old boys yelling "Daddy, Daddy" and fighting over who gets the first hug. My wife giving me a hug and kiss, and saying ...

me too

My screen name is an homage to a fictional landser in "Siege" So I gotta agree with this. The Heer should have their own section.

heroic deaths

2000 Aussie and Brit POWs being transported to Japan in 1944 had their ships torpedoed. A survivor tells of his mate who abndoned ship, landing close to swimming Japanese. He swam to one, drowned him. swam to the next, drowned him. Swam to the next and drowned him. However the last one got him in a ...

Blood Red Snow

I highly recommend it. His unit was decimated at Stalingrad, it was only thru luck that he wasn't in the kessel. He was a machine gunner in the 24th P.D. Buy it.

Walloons

Is Degrelle pretty much reviled in Belgium? How are the veterans treated?

Walloons

Prosper and geisa,
thanks for the enlightening replies. Degrelle basically says that he fought to help ensure that Belgium would have a little leeway with Germany and hopefully independance in the future.

Degrelle

The reason I started this topic was for information about the Walloons. I know enough not take as gospel a book written by somebody like Degrelle. I think my posts speak for themselves, I am not a fascist, rexist or nazi. I simply asked if the walloons were as clean as portrayed in the book. If you ...

I didn't say I admired Degrelle, I said his prose was good. However, if he didn't idolize Hitler so much, I probably would respect him more. I like his railings against corrupt politicians and business, though.

Walloons

I just finished "Campaign in Russia" by Degrelle. It is a pretty decent book. The prose is quite good. Probably the best of any WWII memoir I have read so far. He presents his Walloons as Boy Scouts. Were they ever accused or suspected of atrocities? Most other accounts credit them as hard fighters....
