Re: Johannes Kummel

Hey Kevin - thanks for the reply -- What I had read was that he was in that position (maybe it was just on paper when he was between other postings..) only for a brief period while 505 was being put together in Belgium. Maybe it was just a case of his name being put forward as a potential commander ...

Very cool Larry - thanks for those -- Some of the buildings are exactly the type I lived in when stationed in Aschaffenburg.
Thanks,

Johannes Kummel

I'm looking for a bit of accurate, reliable information on Johannes Kummel -- specifically for anything to do with his involvement with schwere Panzer Abteilung 505. I believe he was the initial abteilung kommandeur while the unit was being created...that is the extent of what I know. Any info would...

Re: translation help - a brief forward

Excellent - thank you very much !! I'm glad that the grammar was on -- he often responds in e-mails that people have had a difficult time understanding and that was why I presumed it may be the same... I'm super grateful that he bothers to take the interest and still respond to me when he is in his ...

Re: Friedrich von Paulus - children ??

That is the best part of teaching...when the kids are interested and ask for more, more, more !! You'd be amazed at the connections I have been informed of - and the interest from the 14,15,16 year old students in the history of this nation and the world based on their family connections !! Keeps it...

Re: Friedrich von Paulus - children ??

John, Thanks for that -- it is very cool to think that she may be connected. She is 15 and told me that she had heard something about being possibly related...her father knew a few things - but her grandfather "always gets angry" - or "disturbed" about it when the subject is brought up. I've encoura...

Friedrich von Paulus - children ??

I have heard that one of von Paulus's (Stalingrad fame) descendants may live near me. I have no desire to bother him but I was curious if anyone had any information on whether or not he had any children...I know his wife passed away in 1949 and they were not reunited because von Paulus was a prisone...

Re: Successful Panzer III commanders?

Without any real specifics to throw in with this post -- I can tell you that many of the well-known Tiger, Panther and Pz.IV commanders out there actually began in the Pz.III. The Tiger abteilungen included Pz.IIIs in the beginning... Check out the list of successful panzer commanders and check to s...

Re: POW in two wars...

How about the same war ? There is a local vet who was shot down and captured by the Germans. He spent some time in a Luftwaffe Stalag...then managed to escape. He made his way back to Allied lines and was repatriated. He then ended up flying in the Pacific Theater and was shot down over China. He wa...
