Re: Latvian SS Arm Shield Question

Sorry, I think my question wasn't that clear. I meant to say that these were two types of Latvian volunteer shields issued during the war. Not so much a question of originality, but more one of type. At what stage of the war were they issued, and were they to the police or ss soldiers :)

Latvian SS Arm Shield Question

Two examples of Latvian SS volunteer arm shields. Why are they different? Was one an earlier type? Can they be dated by issue? :)

Re: Who Is This Decorated Soldier?

Hello Franz... I've just purchased the DKiG book by Patzwell, so when it arrives from Germany I'll go through it. Good idea about comparing the two awards :) Thanks!

Re: What surname?

Hello Hero! Thanks for the info :) I think the soldier's name is KURT KNOCH. There are a few on the Volksbund database, but I'd love to know what SS unit he belonged to at the front. Thanks for responding

Iron Cross 2nd Class

I have a photo of a wehrmacht soldier wearing an Iron Cross 2nd Class, with "E.K. Verleihung 5.9.42" written on the reverse. I'm told this basically indicates he received his medal on this date. Anyway way of narrowing down who he might be from any lists etc??? :)
