Re: German evening report

Your guess is correct Gary, Ib is a list of equipment captured or destroyed.

Grammatically erbeutet and vernichtet depend on wurden at the beginning of the sentence;

Oops, I sound like my old teacher :(

Re: You can't beat a bit more Goebbels

You've got a good point there Heinrich, but as it's reflexive I'm not sure what we're going to get in English. And as you say, if Goebbels can't understand Gröfaz, how can we? :(

I have to say I learnt my version of the language of Schiller a lot further north

Re: You can't beat a bit more Goebbels

I'm inclined to agree with fridgeman. I would say that means that once the situation in the east has been dealt with the whole of Europe can fortify itself (against whatever may come). Maybe some locution with entrench or dig in might work? :?

You're welcome :D

Now you've said it I can see they're quads; If you know where he was, perhaps you can decipher the name?

Re: Translation For Photo Please...

I would hazard a guess at the: following/

5x undamaged English armoured transport vehicles at.... on 30 May 1940, Belgium.

The name of the place I can't decipher (Elver Olingke?) but as we can see it's somewhere in Belgium!

Re: Need Translation

I would hazard a guess that the first name is Richard, based on how he's written Schwester. But I could easily be wrong :D

Re: I love convoluted German sentences

Hi all, think vkun has more or less got it. Either the flares are no longer glowing, or supplies are running short, both of which may lead to guns firing short. here's my bash at it. When the flares threaten to go out at the front, signals on which the infantry as well as the artillery depend, every...

Re: It's more Gauleiter claptrap

Here's my take on this little gem: This morning it's essential to get the overworked people (the auxiliary, rescue and recovery teams) to bed. I have the impression that the organisations no longer have any control over their men. I've seen crazy goings-on with the fire brigade. You can't have a lit...

Here's my belated 2-eurocents :D Diese Dome sind Zeugen der einstigen Größe. Und so wie sie in die Sterne hineinstrebten, so war der Geist der Männer und Generationen, die um diese Bauten lebten, wirkten und kämpften. These cathedrals are witnesses to its former greatness And just as they reach for ...

Re: 250 I.D. on NARA

Hi Ricardo, should be something like: The division receives Corps order No.2010/41, in which the following sector boundaries between the Division and 126 I.D. are given: Saklinje (126) - Dolgovo (126) - northern edge (reading rand for rend) of Pacnotnaja - Gorka - Shabnitsy - Msta river - up to the ...

Sorry, I was a bit too hasty. IR 576 was a part of 305 Infantry Division which was destroyed at Stalingrad. See link:

Re: Hi there! I'm new and need a first help:Stalingrad + France

info on IR 576 from lexikonderwehrmacht. Can't see any mention of Stalingrad even in the entry for the Grenadier regiment. Aufgestellt am 24. November 1940 als Regiment der 13. Welle im Raum Ravensburg aus Teilen der Infanterie-Regimenter 195 und 238 und der 305. Infanterie-Division unterstellt. Die...

Re: Hi there! I'm new and need a first help:Stalingrad + France

Hi, Regiments-stabs is Regimental staff and Feldpost 02 519 is the Field postal number for the regiment (like BFPO numbers nowadays in the UK). I think the text on the dog tags means the following: Replacement machine gun company, the numbers indicating platoon and company. No ideas for the French c...
