17th Pz. Div.

My apologies if this has been brought up before (And I think it has, but can't find the thread.) but I am confused by the listings for the commanders of the 17th Panzers. Most sources name Karl Ritter von Weber as commander from their creation until he was severly wounded in mid-July 1941, but other...

I only own one specific book on the campaign; S.W.C. Pack's Operation Husky, The Allied Invasion of Sicily (David & Charles, 1977 ISBN 071537382 X), though there are brief accounts in Linklater's The Campaign in Italy (The official British account published by HMSO, 1951.) and in W.G.F. Jackson'...

I saw clips of it on the BBC the other day, and it looks good at first sight, but, how many times have you seen all the action in the previews?
Does anyone know of any plans for a UK film or DVD release date?

I too enjoyed it...and have read it at least 6 times...would recommend it. However, even though it is a good read, not all the information contained within is correct. The book is roughly 80% correct. Which parts are incorrect? I think it one of the best accounts of a single battle (Or, rather, ser...

There's a good account in Anzio 1944: An Unexpected Fury by Peter Verney (Batsford Books, 1978) pages 71-77.

2nd Fsj. Div. in Russia Nov. 43-Apr. 44.

According to the command listings I can find, Ramcke was not, officially, in charge of the division during their spell in southern Russia, von Barenthin was CO until mid-November, then Wilke took over, so, what was Ramke doing, and when was he promoted to General der Fsj.? Divsion "Bärwalde"

Does anyone have any info on this late war units activities? I have a notation that GL Wilhelm Raithel led it from early January 1945 and it was composed of several Volkssturm battalions. All I know (Apart from this, thanks to Nafziger.) is that they were disbanded after being engaged on the Dieveno...

I've read War of the Rats (It's the basis for the film Enemy at the Gates.) and it's very good (Much better than the film!). I haven't read the other two.

Gen.-Lt. Georg Radziej

Hi guys, Can anyone explain exactly what roles Radziej (Who went on to lead 169th Inf. Div.) was fulfilling between the end of WW I and his being given command of III/Inf. Regt. 141? According to the Biographies here he was Lehrer Kr. Schule Wiener-Neustadt from 10/11/38 (Does this mean he was train...

Thanks Jeff, Yeah, it's been a long time (One crisis after another, I was beginning to sympathise with Blair!), and research has gradually ground to a halt due to a wealth of questions which I couldn,t ask. Never mind, normal (?) service is now resumed, and, as always, it's great to be back! BTW do ...

Oberst Wilhelm Raapke @ H. Gr. Mitte

Afternoon all, Jason's biography lists this officer as Stoart H. G. Mitte from 1st June 1941 until 1st March 1943. Does this mean he was the Army Groups Chief Medical officer (Sta./St.Artz.)? Considering he was an experienced artillery officer, I doubt it, but can find no other abbreviation which co...

yes, alamein is mentioned: the soldiers come to an award ceremony, and 6 soldiers are decorated for actions at alamein. (i saw it yesterday, so i'm sure what i heard) El Alamein was contemporaneous with Stalingrad and so no unit could have served in both battles. In addition, I don't think any Germ...
