Dornier question
Hello everyone, I am briefly looking at convoy OS-44 which was spotted by a Fock-Wulf 200 on the 12th April 1943 in the Bay of Biscay - this was probably from III/KG 40 based in Bordeaux-Merignac. Observers from the convoy say that the Kondor was joined by a Dornier. Presumably the Dornier was actin...

B-Section operated in Gibraltar What was it ?
Dear all, Here is part of an ULTRA decrypt from March 1943: Reports from German agents from the fortress Algeciras and the B service, located across Gibraltar indicate the sailing of convoy MKS-9. I assume that the German agents were from the Abwehr, but does anyone have any idea what the B Service ...

Seekrieg on Google
There is a lot of what happened on this day information if you tap in seekrieg and a month and day in german onto google.
The information looks like official reports - what are they ? Ultra decrypts ? Bdu reports ? What exactly ?
Thanks
Andre

aircraft fuselage markings KG 26 (white band)
Dear Sirs, I am researching KG 26 in the mediterranean in late 1942. Some photos I see of the He 111s and Ju 88s in KG 26 of the period have a white band circling the body of the fuselage near the tail section but some do not. Why did and what determined whether an aircraft of KG 26 had a white band...

Re: Convoy KMF 5 - Aerial Torpedoing of the Cameronia
Dear all, Well, I am just signing in to say that I have finished my book and after some enthusiasm from a publisher, we hit major issues with copyright and so it looks like it will never be published. Oh well ! Still I had a great deal of fun researching and writing it. Thanks for all your help Andre

Re: What happened to bombs that missed ?
Dear Blackie, Yes, I will keep it simple ! Yes the Escorts knew, the one log book page that I have from one of them positively states aerial torpedo - of course that does not mean to say that a submarine might not have been around but no other record about the incident mentions one at this time and ...

Re: What happened to bombs that missed ?
Dear Blackie, Thank you ever so much for your reply. I asked the question because I am researching convoy KMF-5 and I have spoken to an eye witness (a former soldier) onboard the troopship Cameronia (and below decks - in fact below the waterline) when an aerial torpedo struck the Cameronia. Amongst ...

What happened to bombs that missed ?
Dear all, This may be a daft question but can anyone enlighten me regarding what happened to the bomb when a Luftwaffe aircraft targetting a ship dropped its bomb and it missed the ship ? Assuming that it was fully armed when it hit the water, did it explode when it hit the water ? Did it explode se...

Luftwaffe losses - Mediterranean 21-22/12/1942
Gentlemen, I am aware of that KG26 suffered two downed aircraft in the Mediterranean between 21-22 December 1942, I have the aircraft and crew details. Did KG30 or KG60 (in particular) or any other Luftwaffe bomber units suffer any other losses in the Mediterranean between the 21-22 December 1942 ? ...

Re: Convoy KMF 5 - Aerial Torpedoing of the Cameronia
Dear Francesco, Would it be possible for you to e mail me a scanned copy of each of the OBS reports relating to KMF-5 that you have mentioned in your e-mails on this subject as I would like to include them in a book I am writing about this convoy. Also, do you have any details of the Italian submari...

It may cost a little but you might want to try contacting Len Barnett at lenny@barnettresearch.freeserve.co.uk I have used him in my Naval research and have found him to be outstanding. I realise that a lot can be obtained from these types of forum as I well know (!) however, in the end, a combinati...

Crew names of III/KG26 Ju 88 Torpedo Bomber required
Dear all, This is a long shot I know but I am trying to obtain the crew names of a Ju 88 Torpedo Bomber from III KG26 that initially flew from Grosetto to Sardinia on 21st Dec 1942 and then at 0500 on the 22nd Dec 1942 this plane took off from Sardinia and torpedoed a 12000 ton troopship claiming tw...
