Re: Question regarding the Firefly

These days the sabot thingies are called 'petals'; there's a good picture of a modern-day APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot) round opening up here: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikipedia/commons/2/26/Sabot_separating.gif&imgrefurl=ht...

Lt. Schiefmann

Does anyone know anything about a Lt. Schiefmann, who ended up in Zedelghem camp 2226, Cage 2? He gave a watercolour of the camp to my grandfather, who was one of the staff (RQMS) at that camp. Other information is a number (B314024), which I am assuming is his PW number. Thanks for any help you can...

Re: Avatar (2010 film)

Utter rubbish.

If Cameron really needs to spend so much of someone else's money to make cheap political points, he should join the Labour Party.

Re: 10th Hussars

Was seniority related to regimental seniority, or something else, like when they joined the Brigade?

RASC Field Bakeries, 8th Army

Does anyone know anything abut the organisation of RASC Field Bakeries, particularly in the 8th Army? I have all the pamphlets, recipes etc. from my grandfather's unit, but I don't know if they were attached to specific brigades, corps or divisions. Unsurprisingly, it's difficult to find information...

106 Field Bakery RASC

Does anyone have any idea of the movements of this unit? My grandfather was SSM with them at one point, and it may be the unit he served with in Greece, Crete, Libya and NW Europe.

Thanks.

Re: RAF Regiment

As individuals, a lot of them were posted into the infantry after Normandy. This was to make up losses, and also because the risk to the airfields was deemed to be pretty low by that point. I don't know about formed units being engaged, but the knowledgeable folk over on e-goat (here: http://www.e-g...

Re: Hollow charge projectile for 37mm PAK

You can see it 'in action' in Band of Brothers (third episode, I think), when the Fallschirmjager shoot one at the good guys.

Personally I wouldn't fancy the job of reloading, but it's still better than the old Panzerwurfmine.

Spain hasn't had a decent fleet since 1805...but given the current state of the Andrew, it's probably best for Brits to keep a low profile in that regard

Our local paint/DIY shop can match colours from any object, using some sort of light probe, and then mix it up for you while you wait.

I'd go for Fritz Klingenberg. An amazing achievement in Belgrade, and his exploits in France were pretty good too. You'd just have to keep him away from your kit...

Well, I KNOW its for spent brass, but why does EVERYONE seem to call it a "pistol port"??? 'Cos our American cousins love handguns, and 'pistol port' is SO much more ally than 'spent brass ejector port! :D I seem to remember that in Ken Tout's books, brass was passed up to the commander t...

U-boot films

Does anyone know of any short films of U-boats, or other submarines, suitable for younger children? Anglian Jnr. is very interested in subs, and I don't think I can make him sit through Das Boot just yet.

Thanks.
