I would say the single most crucial weapon for Germany was the K98 Mauser. Almost every soldier was armed with one it showed it's power on the battlefield. Without this weapon, the entire German empire would be without a worthy rifle that was easy and cheap to produce.

They would also talk to each other and engage in conversation (taking about their girl friends, family, stories, etc.) They made the situation the best they could for themselves by getting their mind off of the war. They would be cleaning their rifles and such too. I hope that helped, wehrmacht soldat
