Re: norwegian torpedoboats

The booklet "Marine Arsenal Band 46 - Beute-Zerstörer und Torpedoboote der Kriegsmarine" by Dr. Z. Freivogel may be of interest to you. It has some nice photos of Norwegian torpedoboats in Kriegsmarine service and some general career data. It's in German though.

Marine Rundschau

Is there an index for Marine Rundschau articles somewhere? Would be interested to know what has been published post-WW II about the war.

Thanks,
Jan V.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the reply. So the Bulgars got ex-TM.52 and 53, plus two more ex-Dutch boats, the identity of which is not known at this point, but probably from the series TM.63-70?

The Romanian link mentioned by Peter wasn't known to me, but is ofcourse worth looking into.

Thanks guys,
Jan

Re: Schnellboote

Hi Peter, Thank you for a most informative reply. I should have known you would be the first to jump into the subject :D Yes, everything fine on the Dutch front. Hope all is well in Austria too! As for the schnellboote, one reason why the S.201 and S.202 were removed from the Kriegsmarine lists so f...

Schnellboote S.155-158 / S.5-8 in the Bulgarian navy?

Hi all, I have a question regarding the German Schnellboote S.155-158. These were former Dutch boats, captured at their dockyard in May 1940 (former names TM.58-61). According to Lenton "Navies of the Second World War: the Royal Netherlands Navy", these boats were transferred to the Bulgar...

Hi Freiritter, surface raiding is more than just sinking tonnage, even though that was an important part of it. I'll give you a few exapmples. When Bismarck was on her cruise, many ships and convoys were kept in port or rerouted because of this threat. Shipping tonnage lying idle effectively means a...

Re: Destroyers

There were also a number of destroyers clashes in the channel in early 1944. I know of two, one in which the Allied lost HMCS Athabascan and one where only German ships were lost (ZH.1 and a few others). The German destroyers were from the 8th Z-flotilla.

Re: treaty

If he's trying to say Germany was a signatory to the London Treaty, he's obviously wrong. If he's trying to say that Germany had been bound by the restrictions in the London Treaty, that would be true as long as Germany was bound by the Anglo-German treaty. I believe. And before that, Germany was b...

Re: treaties

Hee! Ssshh, it's a secret. I found something that should bring the point home regarding warships stopping to rescue survivors. You all know about Wilhelm Gustlov, I'm sure. Hipper was in position to go to the rescue, yet did not--the risk of submarine attack was too great. So the cruiser survived, ...
