DER SPEISS

In a standard infantry battallion of 12 Companies am I right to say that each company had its own Sergeant Major known as the Speiss(Mother) and was his rank Haupfeldwebel or Oberfeldwebel? I have Feldpost from a Haupfeldwebel of a 12th Company so assume he is the Speiss yet a book I have read 'Panz...

70 Infantry Regiment

Hello, does anyone have information on 70 Infantry Regiment III Bat, part of 111 Infantry Division from August 1942 as I believe they were fighting in the Causcasus at this time or of the battles in the Causcasus at this time? Is it also possible to obtain listings of the men who were in this Regime...

A good source is the book 'Deutsche soldaten' by AUGUSTIN SAINZ, gives details on all equipment carried etc, Amazon books will stock this book. :D

KRIM SHIELD

I have 2 x Krim shields from a dealer in Bavaria, one is on a tunic and has a bronzed effect whereas the other unattached shield has a grey sheen colour. I am told that the bronze effect faded to grey which may explain why mine has gone this colour. Is this true?

GAS MASK CANISTERS

I have aquired a Wehrmacht Gas mask canister made by AUER and the translation on the can translates 'for civilian use' or words to the effect. Were the military issued with these cans as even the strap is different to the other canister I have?

Many :D thanks

Infantry kompanie numbers

In mid 1942 what strength would an infantry kompanie have been in numbers of men, particularly the 70th Infantry Regiment kompanies strength?
