Re: US AB division structure

Rich, I sincerely hope you already had that information in a file, and didnt spend 2 hours typing it in ! Aaiieee ! Thanks very much for the info. This should be more than enough to nail the questions that I had....except for this one: Were glider infantry given special airborne training, or were t...

Re: US AB division structure

Adding to Rich's post, JJ Hays T/O & E series is excellent - see Volume 3, Parts I and II: http://www.militarypress.co.uk/us_military_history/index.htm#GroundForces Yes they are. I am glad to see that he continued with them - I got the first edition of Volume 1 years ago and never followed up o...

Re: US AB division structure

I am looking to establish the detailed TOE structure of a US airborne division for autumn 1944, (Europe). Usually I go to Stanton, but the entires for Chart 5 (AB division) and Chart 8 (AB regts and btls.) seem to contradict each other. Is there another good source of information ? The US Army Airb...

Re: 23rd Hussars - Le Beny Bocage

[Note: by my reckoning that accounts for four crew members - a Sherman tank had a crew of five, of course.] If it was a Sherman 17-pdr then it was a four-man crew. [Note: not sure what Bishop means by 'escape hatch'. He gives the date, incorrectly, as August 5th. 'C' Squadron (plus a single troop f...

Re: 1560 Art. Regt, 560 VG in the Ardennes

I also have photos of a Lt. in the regt. taken about Dec 18 or 19 posing with a RSO towing a 10.5 cm artillery gun on a road with a Hummel parked on the side and a number of abondened? M5 tanks in the background. Can anyone confirm the Hummel was part of the 1560 Art Regt or would it have been assi...

No it is: Annotated Order of Battle of the Wehrmacht in the West circa 1 June 1944 Jan Same document, different version and title Jan. :D It appears that Ost-Gren.-Regt. z.b.V. 752 was created specifically to fill the coastal defenses on the west coast of the Cotentin between the Brest and St. Malo...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

Further up the thread you were told... Phylo, I'm sorry I stirred the pot. Sadly, it's damnably obvious that nothing has changed over the course of four years - it's yet more evidence that the Internet has allowed robdabism to take the place of logic and reason. Now we have He-59s and Ar-95s joinin...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

That posting is 4 years ago.....I might be wrong, I might be correct - checking. Thank you for posting. Fred, I honestly am not trying to be insulting, but my irritation with you has always stemed directly from your inability to realize just how damning such a statement - made by yourself - actuall...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

I have read what you have written and I have no obligations to comment on them. I also react to your constant insults. Are my numbers wrong? See, just a question - no insult. It is possible. Where is the insult? Sophistry - a subtle, tricky, superficially plausible, but generally fallacious method ...

As always, you avoid the question and the point. Sophistry isn't analysis.

Cheers!

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

In my book I have lined it up like this: This is the kind of thing that gives me gas. Need to justify a crackpot assumption – that an ad hoc conglomeration of AA guns in ad hoc mountings on an ad hoc flotilla floating off the British Isles will shoot down all and sundry aircraft the RAF sends again...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

Slander is slander whether you direct it towards the one it is about or to somebody else. Sigh...I really hesitate in bothering to address you directly anymore, but what the heck... No, it is not. It might be libel, but it certainly isn't slander in any form and if it is either then the burden of p...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

The response is always the same - go personal...... .... Or go Brian Lavery :[] Actually phylo, no, since his response is precisely that which I was referring to in my very non-personal response (given that it wasn't even a response directed at him, but rather at you ). His "response&qu...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

Fred... What fire - from whom - at whom...?.....I can give you details on force compositions for the landing forces at the four beaches. Can you detail the defence for me? I would appreciate that very much. What sources did you use for the British defences for your book? Isn't it obvious Phylo? He ...
