Das Reich was formed from SS-Verfügungsdivision (The SS-Verfügungstruppe). This was not a Totenkopf unit.
Totenkopf was formed from SS-Totenkopfverbände, so some former camp guards here.

The 8 sword recipients were Dieckmann, Dorr, Dörner, Fegelein (executed by RSD), Krüger (suicide), v. Scholtz, Schuldt, Wittmann, so only six were killed in battles. Dieckmann as early as 10 October 1943.
