Yup - and THEN they go and put WHERE EAGLES DARE at the top of their all-time favourite realistic films!!!! actually Phylo, the German soldiers in 'Where Eagles dare" are mostly realistic, I did not spot any errors in uniforms, etc. In fact, it was surprising that Hollywood rememebred(sic) the...

Undying devotion to the Fatherland seems to have no bounds for . . . a Chinese??? As a Chinese myself, I'd never thought i'd live to see the day. Leider es ist nichts deine Vat...

HvM again on his anti-PC crusade

Gee whiz HvM can you spell "nitpicking"? Your brazen catch-all use of the term PC demonstrates the exact sort of tunnel-vision that begs the issue your understanding of political concept -- applying it as you do to every criticism of Germany or fascism and is quite humorous for someone at ...

Oh no you don't HvM, not that easily! You're not going to bullshit your way out that easily. Perhaps you can explain to us HOW you can dispense God's role in this argument as and when you feel suit. Let's see, what sort of double standards are you trying on plant on bringing God on the side of such ...

I am a little surprised that no one on this Board--even Sid-- had the intellectual curiosity to investigate this incident. Whoops. My bad, David! I'm doing so right now. I was about to, but thought you gave the answer (that both died). It is ironic that their deaths at the same battle led to eventu...

HvM, while we wait for your replies I just couldn't help but notice some remarks of yours that raised my eyebrows, but surely it's just not funny anymore. The Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front, from the Field Marshals to the normal soldiers, saved Europe by fighting so furiously, bitterly and tenacious...

This is a nice topic Michael. While I haven't been to Germany (I plan to after this year) I do notice that it is very much Americanised; certainly very modern-looking. And that the English language reigns supreme -- partly as the "chic" language (eg popularly uttered in the schoolyard). A ...

It is an odd thing, but, descriptions of war haven't changed since the Iliad, despite the ideologies. What the Greeks described as the work of the Gods, hasn't really changed, which only serves to prove that a War is a War, no matter who fights it, and heroism and cowardice are universal themes, wh...

Vinnie's French Waffen SS (sic) novel (???)

I do admit, I had to take a few ideas from movies like "What dreams may come" and "somewhere in time" for the parts about Jaque's wife, etc. No you didn't, you could've used your owned ideas (if any) instead of pinching those from your favourite (non-war) movie. That's plagiaris...

well, not really for me, after all, most boys are sorta intrested in war. :D Hv.M. again -- I am sick to near-death of your %€#*ing generalisations. For that is exactly just that, a childish gross oversimplification to claim that "most boys are sorta interested in war". Of course, for one...

H.v.M., what on earth are you prattling about?? Metal IS an iron so the difference, if not nonexistant...is bordering on nitpicking. And having marched before, I can rest assured let you know you haven't a leg to stand on in this case (no pun intended), though what this has to do with anything is be...

Hello John,
Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. The Brits; very certainly yes during that era. That's the same for Aus, NZ and quite possibly Canadian. Nothing unique to the Germans at all.

halfboots are called gaiters. The German jackboots were iron studded, and the Allies ones were not, definetly not as impressive on parade goose stepping Complete nonsense. I'd suggest you put at least a modicum of knowledge in such posts; claiming "the Allies ones were not [sic]" is utter...

Helmut, your emoticons in your posts are getting annoying. Are you an immature brat? Not yet fully mature, most probably. What exactly is annoying in his emoticons? Very much more likely. Probably the fact that the chucks them liberally in every damn post of his. It quite implies a chronic lack of ...
