War Movies

Just like to share 3 fantastic movies courtesy of You Tube
I recommend them
"The hiding place"-The Ten Bon family.
"The Boat" -4 parts.
"The sinking of the Laconia"
The last 2 would affect anyone that suffers from claustrophobia so beware.
Enjoy
GB. :D

Re: 5. Kompanie / Panzergrenadier Division Grossdeutschland ?

Hi,my dad was in the 5th panzer division and was captured by the Soviets and spent the remainder of the war plus a couple of more years after it was over. He must have thought he'd already been sent to HELL until the GULAG. I am still trying to find some info on him with absolutely no success. Cheer...

Re: U Boat

I can't remember reading any accounts of U-boats attacking survivors, but I do know that helping survivors was commonplace. That all changed when an American B-24 attacked U-156 on 12 Sept 1942. The U-boat was helping to rescue suvivors of the sunken converted liner "Laconia" when it was ...

U Boat

SBS Australia is currently showing the doco "U Boat" (many thanks) and it was mentioned that the Germans mowed down some survivors after torpedoing their ship.I find this very hard to believe and there was no actual proof that this ever happened. Was this propaganda?Maybe someone else has ...

Remembrance Day

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.

Was Dresden a mistake?

I was watching a ww2 doco (courtesy of SBS Australia) re the bombing of Dresden.I would like to point out that I mean no disrespect to the victims of this Holocaust and my sympathy goes out to those who perished.I believe that I heard the narrator suggest that the bombing was indeed a mistake.Maybe ...

Re: France

According to Adolf Hitlers book "Mein Kampf" (my struggles) he clearly stated what he called his "missions". As one of the embittered veterans of the 1st world war his 1st mission would be to crush France,to wipe out the humiliation of the treaty of Versailes that had stripped Ge...
