greatest battle honour....

whilst reading a prety standard book on tank construction i came accross a very, very brief "service history" chart of the 40 or so panzer divisions which saw service in the war. ie: 17th panzer div: russia 1941-1945 (smolensk, kiev, stalingrad (relief) kharkov, cherkassy, hubes pocket) no...

sorry... im not sure if you are making a point or asking a question??? i know the problem with the ss helmets is that to all but the most experienced it is almost impossible to tell a "done up" helmet (original war time one with original war time liner/ decals adder later to make it "...

ss air service?????

probably a very "odd" question and will end in a sinple "no" but one i thought of... himmler wanted his fingers in many pies by all accounts and wanted what every one else had, as with the ss500 for example... did he ever venture in to the air arm proper? who was the "butche...

think youll find it is early war by rolling to the edge and therefore either a 35 or 40 pattern... (the 42 pattern has the sharpe edges) look at the air hole above the decal, if it is an "inserted" rivet (as it looks from the pic) its a 35, if stamped through then its a 40. it allso has th...

im very new to all this but one issue here is that alot of people may (or may not) have served in a front line disciplined army for any lengh of time, and would maybe not know how equipment/ helmets are worn in relation to certain "front line" senarios... the "front" is an absolu...

what??? not at all... if you were the lowest german from the lowest darkest deepest hole who no one even cared about, infact, forget a german, if you were the lowest forced "untermench" you would have been better equiped and have that helmet on your own head!... thats who i meant.

in 1943? with prety little side caps and not any belt gear or weapon to be seen? probably no where near the front... even the poorest equiped german low life from the depths of no where would be better equiped than these chaps... at any time of the war. at least warmington on sea had knives tied to ...

or possibly at a range for their own troops?
if i expected some sniper to be having a pop at the dummy i was putting up that close to the front i think id be wearing the helmet not him... not that it appeared to be much use...

i thought the germans always wore all the gear near the front?

what were the best waffen ss features????

ive been reading a few accounts on the waffen ss since finding this site and have come to the conclusion that they were of course "a cut above" the rest of the german army and probably every other army too... but what made them so effective? were they braver? was it purly dedication/ moral...
