Unternehmen Ikarus

Hi All

Ikarus, the codename given to the German plans to
invade Iceland without having to go via the UK (not very advanced plans, but they were looking at it in a semi serious way for a while)?

Did this exist? Any information?

Thank You

Correction to my posting

Thanks, Don for the acknowledgment, but my source had an error. It is not the 100 Jaeger division, but the 1st Ski-Jaeger Division. One of the under-acknowledged "elite' units of the German Army of WW II.

One More

In Sönke Neitzel’s book “Der Einsatz der deutschen Luftwaffe über dem Atlantik und der Nordsee 1939-1945”, includes some very good information about KG 40 and it operation environment.

Interesting Heinz

This 'bias' is continued in Richard Brett-Smith's 'Hitler's Generals'. On page 11 he pontificates: 'What sort of men were the generals...In some the underlying flaw of character may be caught, and it is not hard to guess the SS commanders.' Then later on Gille: Ziemke has described him as 'a well-me...

How good was the book.

Hi Helmut

How good was General Lasch's book 'SO FIEL KOENIGSBERG'? I beleive there is an English version available soon. My German is not too good, ok for referencing, but not for solid reading.

I have not been able to establish 'Mikosch' Officer rank. Does the book give it?

Best Wishes
Mitch
