Well said M48 Tanker. Many of the German military accomplishments were quite brilliant and revolutionary, to say the least. It's a real shame that the general populace tends to summarily dismiss the combat actions and focus only on the war crimes of WWII Germany. The average landser certainly deserv...

Air Assault on Crete
Anyone out there have a copy of this game? Here's my problem. I picked up a copy of this game some years ago on E-bay. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a rulebook, and the seller refused to deal with the situation accordingly. End result, I have a complete game, sans rulebook. Would someone be wil...

I was an avid wargamer in my youth (early teens into mid 20's). Cut my teeth on games such as Stalingrad, Panzerblitz and the Russian Campaign. My collection included probably 80% of Avalon Hill's WWII game products, from squad level combat like Up Front, Squad Leader, and ASL, up to the grand strat...

I have to say I am not a fan of the latest version of the WiF maps. I really liked the older editions, but the latest maps look overly computerized which I hate. I certainly agree with that. I have the 4th ed. maps which are fairly pale but much less cluttered in comparison with the later editions....

I've had similar experiences growing up here in Canada. Developed an immediate interest in WWII after my grade 5 teacher showed the class the 'Stalingrad' episode from the series 'The War Years'. Subsequently, quite a few of us started building German tanks and vehicles. Personally, I like the 'look...

For hex based games, I greatly enjoyed playing Australian Design Group's (ADG) World in Flames in the late 80's thru the mid 90's. This was a massive strategic level game system with numerous add-on modules which enhanced the system. The colourful laminated counters were a true work of art, and the ...

Thanks for your post Cott Tiger. IMHO, generally, the English do an outstanding job on historical documentaries. As a teenager, I used to watch World at War and the War Years religiously. I especially enjoy the recent History of Britain series. Big thumbs up to the Brits for bringing these excellent...

Ironically, if people like Michael Wittman, Erich Hartmann, Adolph Galland, and Otto Kretschmer had fought for the U.S. they would have been regarded as the greatest soldiers in history. It's just not politically correct to laud their accomplishments. Check out some of the History Channels British ...

The thing about Hollywood is that its primary mission is to make money and entertain people. I think it's rare to find a film that portrays an historical event with 100% accuracy. Even some 61 years after the end of WW2, there are still many people for whom the war is still a very touchy subject. Th...

Yes it is an excellent game. Be sure to pick up the third game in the trilogy, titled 'Afrika Korps'. It brings the North African and Italian theatres into the series. I wish the designers would make an early war module (Poland, France, Low countries, Norway, etc.). Apparantly, AK is their final wor...

In terms of versatility and reliability, my vote would go to the Panzer IV, in all its incarnations. Starting out with the short barrelled 75L24 as a close support tank, it became a formidable (in the hands of an experienced crew) tank with the upgraded longer barrell 75L48 and additional armour pro...
