I agree. You have to have a lot of 'intestinal fortitude' to launch one of these funny banzai charges that lead nowhere ,and if you survive that, then put that very intestinal fortitude to the test by commiting seppuku . I readily agree that in the way of suicidal and ultimately useless last stand d...

Indeed. But your Japanese Imperial Marine etc. will fight just ONE battle, and be anihilated after giving a hell of a fight and perhaps causing, let's say, 1/2 of its strenght in enemy casualties. Your Ss-PZGrDiv. on the other hand, will kill only about 1/4 of its strenght, and then will retreat, ba...

Yes, you're completely right it was not the fault of the excellent Luftwaffe ground troops that they were fed into the front line without proper training. Also, you're right in that USA replacements were not much good in terms of training, etc., but after all they were mostly young, fit men, even if...

Guillermo, the country, the nation, the psople had to be saved from the Hitlerite beasts. If we were soft, the night of Nazi genocide would have fallen over the Soviet Union and then, the entire world. If all of our men had fought as well as the Japanese defenders of Tarawa, no nazi would ever have...

Agree, but up to a point. His basic contention is (against Martin van Creveld, Dupuy and others), that an American unit was in WWII not only as good as, but more efficcient, that an equivalent German unit. But I believe that his starting point was flawed, because even in the Vosgues in late 1944-ear...

Mmmmm... As you all know, there are lies, d***d lies and statistics, and these could be one of the latter. No one doubts the will (note I avoid the term 'fanaticism') of the Japanese soldiers and officers to die for Emperor and Country. But, as Patton once said, war is not about dying for your Count...

I salute you, Commissar.... even if the last two issues have left me scratching my head and wondering about those pills... But I love this: From the back deck of his StuG, Sam stared at what was certainly a replica of a Viking shield, complete with a black raven drawn on a red background. “Excuse me...

A pity. But in fact many of the new generation european 'frigates' are 'destroyers' in all but name. For example, our new 'Alvaro de Bazán' F100 Aegis class frigates should have been classed as destroyers by displacement and weapon systems, but there is a strong hint  that the term 'destroyer'...
