Re: Renown and Repulse VS. Prinz Eugen
The PE would have had to have been completely regunned if taken into British service. Her radios and radars would also have had to have been replaced. Then there's the problems with her propulsion system. If the British had captured Eugen they would have probably takne a lot of her apart to analyze...

Re: Torpedos : float or sink
This was frequently used to great effect against merchant shipping When it was eventually got to work...the torpedo would be set to run at a depth just beneath the ship, relying on a magnetic exploder to activate at the appropriate time. Germany, Britain and the U.S. independently devised ways to d...

Re: Renown and Repulse VS. Prinz Eugen
Considering that the PE was an enemy combatant, and a big one at that, why would the two British ships do anything other then sink her from afar? That would certainly stop her from helping the Bismarck! One could speculate that given the right opportunity, a warship of the calibre of the PE would h...

Torpedos : float or sink
Does anyone know whether or not spent torpedoes fired in WW2 either sank or floated ? I guess that it might vary from navy to navy and different circumstances, but in generally what happened to them ?

Re: German fraternisation with local women.
I suspect that this book is not written in English. Is that correct ?lexiebabe wrote:You can check out the books written by Drolshagen: 'Nicht ungeschoren davon kommen' and 'Wehrmachtskinder'. As far as I know are these the only books written about this subject.

Re: German fraternisation with local women.
Thanks for your very detailed reply. It is most helpful. I have no problem at all with the extent of the fraternisation between the Dutch** and the Germans, although it must has been on a vast scale in order to have produced so many children. I am still hopeful, though, of learning more about the ru...

Re: Luftwaffe vs Swiss air force?!
I wouldn't doubt it; it happened far more often than you might think! From Wiki... Nazi Germany repeatedly violated Swiss airspace. During the Invasion of France, German aircraft violated Swiss airspace no fewer than 197 times. In several air incidents, the Swiss (using 10 Bf-109 D, 80 Bf-109 E fig...

German fraternisation with local women.
The British national press has just published material about the current German government offering citizenship to the 1000's of foreign national children fathered by German troops of occupation in WW2. These articles state that those born of Norwegian and Dutch women are to be given this facility s...

Why do this forum feature the "Save" button" BEFORE the "Sbmit" one ? I frequently find myself keying in this button and not the "Submit" one ! Thanks for your helpful replies, guys. I drafted a response to them but have lost it !

Military footwear
For as long as I can remember there have been problems associated with infantry boots/shoes. These ranged from the metal studs on the German soldier's boots transmitting the cold from the icy Russian snow and ice, though to the Tommie's boots melting in the heat of the Iraqi desert. Does anyone feel ...

Re: Canadian or Cuban members of this forum
seems to me that a special relationship seems to exist between Canada and Cuba Yes, there is. Its a very inexpensive place to travel and visit...that is the relationship. No, I don't think that it is simple as that. Firstly, Cuba is no longer inexpensive. All the visitors I have spoken to, and the ...

Re: RAF bomber shoots down a Messerschmidt Gigant
Hi, Your explanation may well be correct, but I'd like to think that the book cover accurately depicted the book's contents, or else that might just as well have a gorgeous blue eyed blonde waving her udders around on the cover just to bump up sales......................and why not ! Insofar as &quo...

Re: RAF bomber shoots down a Messerschmidt Gigant
I had heard of that before, but I believe that any unit operating Marauders would have been a part of a Tactical Air Force Group rather than Bomber Command as such. Your information is very much appreciated and it does go a long way to confirm the inacciuracy and foolishness of this picture being us...
