Hi Sam,
That is indeed a well known rumor but there is no proof to be found anywhere that it may be true.
Say some people that know their business. And I'm happy to parrot them
best regards.

Re: huge German railway gun
It was meant to be used against Leningrad after the capture of Sebastopol in 1942. It was moved to Riga (some say sources it stayed their) and a firing 'platform' was built at Taylsy (some sources say the gun was also transported there and prepared for firing), wherever it may have been exactly....i...

Re: Sdkfz 250 in Poland 1939
Hi Keith, They may well be in Poland, just not in 1939. The writing on the wall is not in the cyrillic alphabet which would argue against their being in Russia. It could be Poland just before the start of Barbarossa or the part of Poland that was taken over by the Russians in 1939 after the start of...

Never hide in a corner ljadw! We all make mistakes. I know the WW2 Zone forum but haven't been there in a long while, I'll hop over and see what Tom has produced on the Eisenbahngeschütze. But I can tell you now he has forgotten one 28cm gun. Apart from the Lange Bruno, Neue Bruno, Schwere Bruno and...

Re: Help Identify young man - Waffen-SS?
Makes me wonder if the foto was indeed taken in 1943-44 as fridgeman says and not (a lot) earlier.Johann-45 wrote:Its a M36 Tunic
The whole picture has an 'early war' look to it I think. Not exactly an objective observation but that's my general impression anyway.

Hi all, My grandmother, a Volksdeutsche from the Hauerland in Slovakia, believed (at the time) that Slovakia would be theirs for the picking. No more oppression by Slovaks and Hungarians but all the land for themselves and their former oppressors as their slaves. Not that she had ever felt oppressed...

Hi NagaSadow,
I know what Jentz says...and happen to agree with him
One should, however, take all available information into consideration and Spielberger is (mostly) not be discarded lightly. Even when Jentz disagrees.
Best regards,
Paul

Re: Sdkfz 250 in Poland 1939
Hi Keith and NagaSadow, In Walter J. Spielberger's "Die Halbkettenfahrzeuge des deutschen Heeres" there is one little sentence in the chapter dealing with the SdKfz 250 that caught my attention: "Die 1939 erscheinenden ersten Prototypen waren teilweise noch mit dem Maybach 'NL 38' Mot...

11. Infanterie Division emblems
Hi all, Can anyone tell me when each of the following emblems of 11. ID was used? Or wether they were used simultaniously by different elements of the division? And does anyone know which colours were used for the last one (taken from Lexikon der Wehrmacht)? http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j255/Pa...

The Dutch, commerce, drugs and war
Hi all, Recently a book was published in The Netherlands telling the story of a businessman and his work during the early decades of the 20th century. Though fiction the book is well researched to provide a credible setting. It tells about "De Nederlandsche Cocaïnefabriek", a factory that ...
