Re: Edelweiss

As many members of the brigade\division came from Gebirgs divisionen more than a few continued to wear their edelweisses. As for the Jäger. Those e...

Re: Coastal Artillery 1934-35

I guess you mean V. Marine Artillerie Abteilung which became the 5 Marine Artillerie Regiment in oct.39 and was disbanded jan.40
It included M.A.A .115, M.Fla.A.215 and 225 which have seperate histories.

Re: Tirpitz in Norway.

This was almost certainly the attack on the 25th Sept. by Soviet MTBs and aircraft against a small convoy of ships in Varangerfjord escorted by the 61 Vorposten flottille. That this sailor had the HSF does not mean he was still serving on a capital ship when he died.

Re: Ski boots...axis or allied???

They're civillian boots but the wearing of civillian ski boots by members of the army wasn't uncommon. I've seen photos of soldiers wearing cross strap style boots.

Re: Motorcycles ?

sniper1shot, you're quite right. Their main use in most units, save actual motorcycle units, were as dispatch riders or kradmelder. just browse through some of the KStN's to get a feel for how they were issued and used http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/

I have 6 rolls on DVD at the moment with 6 more on order. As each DVD contains a folder with all frames in that one folder it's too slow and clunky to navigate directly from the DVD. The first thing i did was to copy the folder from the DVD to my computer then go through the roll creating subfolders...

If you could post pictures of what you have we could tell you much more. The Iron Cross document. You say it was signed by the commander of the 12 Infantry Division? That's interestng as artillery regiment 131 belonged to the 131 Infantry Division, however it wasn't unusual for units to get temporar...

I'm pretty sure that naval personnel were used as infantry in Danzig 1939 and during the Invasions of Denmark and Norway in 1940. The survivors of the sunk or beached KM destroyers were mustered as a couple of battalions of scratch infantry at Narvik, with Norwegian uniforms liberated from a nearby...
