Re: Numbering of Kompanie, Zug and Gruppe

Thank you for your quick response Christoph. The numbering would therefore be: 1.Gruppe - 1.Zug - 1.Kompanie - I.Bataillon - Inf.Rgt.1. 2.Gruppe - 1.Zug - 1.Kompanie - I.Bataillon - Inf.Rgt.1. 3.Gruppe - 1.Zug - 1.Kompanie - I.Bataillon - Inf.Rgt.1. 4.Gruppe - 1.Zug - 1.Kompanie - I.Bataillon - Inf....

Numbering of Kompanie, Zug and Gruppe

Dear All, The Wehrmacht used Roman numerals to identify battalions i.e. I and II etc. They used numbers to identify the Kompanie, 1 to 4 being I Battalion, 5 to 8 II Battalion, 9 to 12 III Battalion then additional Kompanies 13 onwards for support weapons. However did they use numbers to identify in...

German War Effort becomes unsustainable?

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but at what point did the German War Effort become unsustainable. Assuming that the front could have be stabilised, both East and West (and in Italy), at which point would the German Army run short of raw materials (eg. rare metals?)for defeat to become ...

Targul Frumos/Iassi Offensive

Dear All, The defeat of General Konev's 2nd Ukrainian Front's offensive, aimed at capturing Targul Frumos and Iassi during May 1944, by Army Group Wohler has been quoted as being used by NATO as a wargame/training scenario (presumably in the 1960s or 1970s) as an exercise as to how to combat Soviet ...

Dear Schpam Sorry I did not make myself clear. The 'book' version for 2nd SS Panzer is I Abt containing 2 light and one medium Panzer Kps and II Abt containing the same plus 8.Kp that was composed of Pz VIs (Tigers)and Pz IIIs. The Kps were supposedly numbered 1Kp to 3Kp and 4Kp to 6Kp. But the numb...

Can anyone give me details of the number and types of tank in each Kompanie and if possible the Kompanie commanders. So far I have the tank strengths at the start of the campaign as 66 Pz III and 60 Pz IV. 12 of these Pz IIIs were in 8.Kp with the Tigers. I have photographic evidence for Pz IIIs in ...

Well done Roger and Piet I can accept that the Stabskompanie may number its tanks with the prefix 9 as 12 SS Pz division had a novel numbering system anyway for its tanks, but if 9th Kp is Pionier what is the Pionier Company commander Obersturmfuhrer Buetttner doing running around in a Pz IV tank as...

So far I have it as a halftrack Pionier Company with 40 lmgs and 6 flamethrowers (Nafziger) commanded by SS-Hstuf Rumpf. Presumably the halftracks ...
