Re: Is the term "Reich" usurpated?

The Second German Empire was not "absolutistic." The Kaiser had the hold on foreign policy (like the US prez), and could choose his chancellor (like the US prez chooses his secretaries) but the Reichstag had important powers as well, such as finance, the basis of all constitutional governm...

I'm not sure what your query is. But I note that you seem to imply that Germans were a minority in Danzig as well, when they were not, "the strength of this minority not only in Pomerania but also in Danzig," including my great-uncles.

Re: To wed or not to wed?

Annelie,

Alles Gute

Re: Versailles' predecessor - the Treaty of Frankfurt, 1871.....

You have to take into consideration the state of the country in 1919, while in 1871, the French economy was not much destroyed, foreign trade and exports free, its colonies available, etc.

Re: German Occupation Policy - Poland

It has in the sense that some historians see Nazi policy towards Poland and Russia through the lens of Generalplan Ost, and Arnold argues that many policies were not done as part of that plan but rather ad-hoc. :[]

That's true about orgasms, for men and women. A daily orgasm should be part of life, just like the apple and the walk.

Re: To wed or not to wed?

When I got married 21 years ago it was not the great Hollywood romance (nor Bollywood, though I would have love some great dance numbers), we just kinda fell into it. We had our ups and downs, and 2 children, and endure, reasonably happy. Life is like that. As Goethe said, "Was uns alle bandigt...

Re: chicago Sheriff.....a decent person for renters

I like his stance on evictions of innocent people (renters), but then wonder why he's wasting taxpayers money on persecuting consenting adults ('Prostitution" for Puritans). Perhaps he has to appease the moronic rightwingers somehow to protect renters (in which case I can at least understand hi...

Re: What do YOU do to stay in shape?

I am always in some form of shape (pear shaped, right now). I thought of skipping all calories except for beer, but since I still have to go to work decided to join Bally's. It's a daily battle.

Re: Reminder about Holocaust and War Crimes Discussions!!!!

Domen, Dream on. What you're describing are Polish myths. Danzig was not a part of Poland for most of its history. It was first part of the Pomoranian duchy of Pomerellen. The dukes of the Western Pomoranians preferred to become princes of the Holy Roman Empire and germanize rather than be harassed ...

Re: How guilty is the entire Wehrmacht of war crimes?

Being informed does not mean participating, especially in a bloody dictatorship! What do these German haters think--the Third Reich was some form of democracy for Germans? The Gestapo zealots (real Nazis) would have loved to get their hands on Wehrmacht dissidents. Otherwise, nothing beyond the guil...
