Re: Max Hansen's grave ?

Hi -

Joefraser is of course correct. It's known as "Liegezeit." A grave is only in place for 25 years. After that, the "Inhaber" of the grave must agree to maintain the plot.

Re: Andrey Vlasov & the RLA

Hi all - With regard to books on the Vlassov movement, forum members should find this thread helpful: http://www.feldgrau.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=1800 As far as English-language texts are concerned, most will agree that Catherine Andreyev's scholarly Vlassov and the Russian Liberation Mov...

Hello Doctor Krollspiel - Nearly all of these are prints taken from my book and "aged" to look like old SS-PK photographs. I personally knew most of the pictured men and can tell you that the story of the photographs being "found in an attic" is totally false. I own the originals...

Another reason is that most of the Italian officer corps and Generals were freemasons. Hi Panzermahn - I think what derGespenst means here is whether it can actually be proved that Freemasonry somehow sabotaged the Italian war effort. Who were the leaders of Italian Freemasonry? Did they make anti-...

Hi Lars - I considered several different ways of determining the Handschar Division's size compared to other SS divisions. Every month, each Waffen-SS formation reported its personnel strength to Himmler. The numbers were then assembled in a document titled "Staerke der SS." For example, y...

Hi Lars - The remarkable 26,000 figure comes from a letter written by Himmler to Konstantin Kammerhofer, his personal representative in Croatia, on 1 July 1943. In the letter, he told Kammerhofer: "I await your report regarding the complete formation of the division with a strength of about 26,...

Hi Lars - Thanks for your note and kind words. The SS orignially envisioned the division possessing some 26,000 men, but this never came to fruition. I would say that the division achieved its peak Gesamt-Staerke on 15 February 1944, when it possessed: 377 officers (nearly all of whom were German) 2...

Hi All - Reb is of course correct regarding Italian-Americans. My family is of Italian descent and our male family members fought against Italy without reservation during the Second World War. Perhaps it would be fairest to say that while we maintain a cultural interest in Italy (and familial ties i...
