26 000

Dear George, Thank you very much indeed for your kind reply. If you google for "largest division" and +Waffen-SS you will notice that a number of sites state that "Handschar" was the largest. But you will also note that they state that the figure 26,000 men was reached. As you do...

"Handschar", Izetbegovic and Beger

Dear Ljotrulf, Thank you. There is indeed a great deal of information on Beger in the book The Master Plan by Heather Pringle. But very little about his service in "Wiking" (in the "Nordland" regt) and later "Handschar", which is what I am looking for now. BTW I absolut...

Dear George, Thank you for your detailed and interesting reply. Are you saying that "Handschar" would have been the largest division of the Waffen-SS had its planned strength been reached ?¨ I suspect that is what you meant although you did not spell this out. Well, if that indeed is the c...

Himmler´s Crusade

Dear Mr Ljotrulf,

Thank you for your reply.

Can you suggest any other book re. Beger than Himmler´s Crusade by Chris Hale - I have that book already.

Best regards,

Lars

size matters

Dear readers and especially Mr Lepre  In G. Lepres excellent book Himmler´s Bosnian Division there is one thing I can´t find - but probably it is in there somewhere but I just cant find it! What I am looking for is this: a statement to the effect that the divison was the largest ever in t...

GvB

Hi again,

I am glad you are a helpful type of guy!

I am largely speculating now, from my not crystal-clear memory. But I believe this guy was either a squad leader in a regular grenadier company, or just a private in one.

I cant even speculate about when he joined and left GvB.

Good hunting!

Dear Hans Kristian!

Both I myself and many others here, I reckon, would be most grateful if you´ll let us know more about any finds.

I do not have the books in question and doubt I will get them, unless some Swedish info is in them...

Beste hilsen

Hi,

The postwar Swedish Army included a dozen individuals who had served in the W-SS and WH. Some even as officers.

Gaius

Yes, I agree.

Thank you, Lorenz for suggesting Gaius. I contacted him and asked him to comment on that thread, which he did in a very precise way.

Cheers,

Lars

Hale´s book

Dear Lorenz and George, Thank you for your replies! Lorenz - if you are thinking of Klemen´s input on the AHF I think you should read it again as he is more or less saying that there is no evidence , at least that he is aware of, that Izetbegovic himself took part in the recruitment work for "H...

Swede in "Götz von Berlichingen"

Hi, Those of you who have acquired the new book(s) on "Götz von Berlichingen" published by Editions Heimdal - could you just be so kind as to inform if the book even mentions any Swedes in the division? One trusted friend of mine, deceased late in 2005, said that he had had an ex-GvB soldi...

"Handschar", Izetbegovic and Beger

Dear reader and especially Mr. Lepre! I have just received Mr Lepre´s book Himmler´s Bosnian Division , i.e. on the "Handschar" division. As soon as I started looking through the book I was impressed and the more I have read the more amazed I am at the effort the author has made. It also h...
