SS were victims too

After scanning so many posts related to SS/crimes I feel I must try to balance things a little. A good friend of mine, a SS-Wiking Sturman, was captured by US forces in Westfalia in '45 and relates the following: He and his comrades were dug in by a road , armed with panzerfausts, awaiting a spear-h...

Not so Lily White are they

IIsn't it interesting to find a snippet of truth hidden lo these 60 years! From the Manchester Fuardian: The British government operated a secret torture centre during the second world war to extract information and confessions from German prisoners, according to official papers which have been unea...

Wound Badge silver - detail

Was the badge awarded for 3-4 separate woundings ie occurring at different times or for 3-4 wounds all together perhaps occurring all at the same time?

Thanks!

2Co 5th SS_Panzer Div "Wiking"in Westfalia

During the closing months of the war, 1st and 2nd Co. of Wiking Div. were sent to Paderborn to receive new tanks. None arrived but the American Army did which forced a number of tankers into the role of infantry sent out to meet the American thrust in that area. Would anyone know which American unit...

tripe

I bought the ruddy thing but I think contributing the same amount to The National Assocation for Clothing Animals would have been better value. Very poor writing of fantasy scenarios . While it is a"novel"(and I use that word loosely) it tempts by appearing to be factually based which of c...

SS Wiking Vet - Questions?

I have been fortunate to make the acquaintance of a vet of the named divison. If any researcher has particular queries, I can pass them on and post (privatly or on the forum) a reply if any.

POW Camp - NWT Canada - 1942

I have received information from two old timers of a small POW camp in northern Canada - about 75 miles due east from Yellowknife NWT - which housed 8 German POW/engineers for two years. I recently had the occasion to visit the site - not much - a couple of collapsed and rotted cabins. I am told tha...

No Celebrations for Germany

Poor Germany - no celebrations for her this June 6 - or any time. No national day to celebrate, honour or show respect for those that fought and fell; no "good war" to constitute a part of the national glue; no military marches to demonstrate national pride or military achievement much les...

Preservation

I have a collection of campaign badges - Krim, Kuban. Cholm, Demyansk and Narvik.

A couple of them are showing signs of corrosion - rust although kept in a sealed envelope.

Can any one suggest how best to keep these items from deteriorating?

Thanks!
