...although YOU can't say this either until you've read the book!...doesn't mean he or she is glorifying and apologizing for whatever crimes the regime or the man has committed.

Re: Axis soldiers shot by Western Allies for sabotage 1940-1947
Please note that for all acts of sabotage and armed violence against the Occupying Powers in Germans after VE Day - a military court martial and appropriate military punishment was in fact 100% legal and the correct thing to do; civil law had been suspended, and Germany was occupied by four military...

Re: cancelled Checks Tampa Fl
Dusty, where did these come from?
I'd have to note the 1929 date on them...something a bit amiss there.

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
Are you seriousky trying to make me believe that Dresden needed to be firebombed just to hinder(not stop because that would not be possible) troop movements behind a sector of the eastern front? No, not "just" - no matter what you choose to call it those industries/factories were still th...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
The term 'Marshalling Yards' is the US euphemism for area bombing of city centres At Dresden, however, things happened a tad "arse-about face"... The first Americans to arrive, the 379th Bombardment Group, aimed at the marshalling yards in the Friedrichstadt district west of the city cent...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
The only important movement from west to east was the movement of the 6th SS Panzer army(a wellknown fact of history to any ww2 fan) and that had already taken place and did not move over Dresden. Actually, the movement of this army proved that you need much more than destroy one railhub to make mo...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
This is a very feeble attempt at justification after the fact as fireraids executed by the RAF were always terror attacks aimed against the population. Constantly repeating the same mantra does not actually mean it'll be accepted, you know. When you attack point targets you use mainly HE and the ai...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
There was nothing in Dresden of such military importance that absolutely had to be taken out, paerticularly at that time of the war. Strange that - given that in 1944, the German Army High Command's Weapons Office listed 127 medium-to-large factories and workshops that were supplying the army with m...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
Have you actually READ Churchill's letter? Both versions of it?Not surprising that there were protests after the raid. Even Churchill started to have second thoughts about this type of raid.

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
It made always sense to execute daylight precision attacks against industrial targets. It did NOT make sense to do so when bombers couldn't be defended by longrange fighters. Remember exactly why the British abandoned daylight precision bombing in late 1939... The area attacks to destroy the moral ...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
Rather funny that somebody would try to convince me of the incorrectness of an existing opinion about the illegality of areabombing. I think I mentioned the existence of the opinion without agreeing with it. I even explained why I disagree with it. But the opinion exists .... Exactly. And that's wh...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?
Making arrogant statements about the legality of indiscriminate bombing does not change the fact that the opinion concerning its illegality, even during ww2, exists. Not my opinion but it does exist. Spot the important word emboldened there. And it is far from arrogant to point out when the basic pr...
