Koreans in imperial japanese service

My father faught in the Korean war. Out of curiosity, I did a bit of reading on the internet about that conflict and found most of the South Korean militery leadership were former officers of the Imperial Japanese army. I then found the US executed a two star japanese general for war crimes in the P...

A number of countries have laws giving them power to prosecute their own citizens for crimes overseas. Comitt murder in a country where murder is not a crime and you might be prosecuted once you get home to your country where murder is a crime. The US has enacted laws giving itself jurisdiction to p...

Actually, the US has its own set of precedents. During the Civil War, Sioux warriors went on the rampage in Minnosota. They were not signatory to anything like the Geneva Convention either which they did not abide either. The US army hanged 38 in a single drop of the gallows at Mankato Minnesota, da...

Allied tribunals declared otherwise. Quite a few of their officers and men were executed by the allies for violating it. Tojo at the top.

I heard somewhere that the British and the Australians followed this logic in the Pacific in regards to Japanese POWs as well. They even ordered their own men to salute japanese officers. Even former POWs who had been abused by these same officers. Not only did they allow Japanese officers to arrest...

Not all cold war films portray the Soviets as bad. The Movie the Russians are Coming the Russians are Coming, Starring Brian Keith and Rob Reiner, in which a soviet submarine 'inadvertently' violates American waters and runs aground is a case in point. Anyone see it? In the book one of the soviet cr...

Truth is, I don't know. I know Roosevelt was happy to see the Soviets no longer on the German side. And Lend-Lease legislation was being worked but I don't know how far these things were going by Pearl Harbor. It would be interesting. If Hitler had not chosen to declare war on the US after Pearl Har...

I remember Hammer. He marketed a lot of the loot the reds plundered from those they murdered. And let us not forget the DC-3 which the Soviets manufacted a copy of. There is an old Joke about the great soviet inventor Regus Patoff. The gist though is would America's and Europe's leftist peace moveme...

Actually, depends on when Hitler croaks. I believe I covered this subject in another thread. Of course, it is possible that the document that started this thing might have become reality if Hitler had sent condolances and refused to declare war on the US after Pearl Harbor since that would leave the...

Our governments would be abolished. Our contries would be ruled by appointed collaborators. Democracy would be abolished and the women of your countries would be serving in Japapese comfort stations. Jews would be extinct. I suppose under 'modern' liberal morals nobody would have a problem with thes...

I too find these things interesting as they reflect what the elite of today are like compared to those of the past. There were certainly journalists like that back then. Journalists like Walter Duranty who openly denied Stalin's attrocities, for which he was awarded a Pulitzer prize. How would WWII ...

I don't think I have seen the Nurenberg series here in the US yet. I remember seeing some of the Dunkirk series, some months ago.. It was put on late, here in the US. If I remember it right, Sean Bean of Sharpe narated it. His naration was good. Costuming was good. the rest was rather basic. I reall...

American Purple Heart

In my wanderings I saw a Purple Heart medal with a leaf on its ribbon. I have searched the internet for an explanation to what this leaf is. Unfortunately none of the sights on the Purple Heart say anything other than it is the American decoration for wounds. Can anyone tell me what this thing is an...

My bet would be on Goering. Other than Heydrich he's the only one in that crowd with a brain. And because of being stuck in an ongoing war, I doubt the Generals or anybody else would question the legalities until much after the fact. I don't think the Generals had the guts to push a Junta into power...
