Re: Panzers at Campaux

Are there any good books on the 7th Panzer that might include information on this action?

I have The 7th Panzer Division in France and Russia by Stolfi, but does not cover this period in any detail.

Panzers at Campaux

A French AT unit reported fighting against Panzer IVs near Campaux on 7 June, 1940. I'm curious, what unit those tanks belonged to and what was their objective. From what I have found, 7. Panzer-Division was in the neighborhood. Does anyone here have any details? Here is Campaux: https://www.google....

I'm also interested in buying a copy, in case someone has one for sale.

Im Zeichen des Schwertes: Erinnerungen /../ 131. ID

In late January 1945, the German 131st Infantry Division was involved in a breakout attempt from a pocket in East Prussia. This action is covered to some extent in Battleground Prussia (Prit Buttar), although there is not much detail. I'm curious if there are some more details in Im Zeichen des Schw...

78. Infanterie-Division: von Benningsen's Battalion

In August 1942, 7. Kompanie, Panzer-Regiment 3 was subordinated to an infantry battalion of the 78. Infanterie-Division. The battalion is question was commanded by Oberleutnant von Benningsen. Does anyone know, which of the infantry battalions he commanded? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! (I also p...

What does "T-43" mean here? (From what I understand the "real" Soviet T-43 tank never made it pass prototype stage.)

Polish cavalry raid into East Prussia

On the night of 2 September 1939, the Podlaska Cavalry Brigade made a raid into East Prussia, and allegedly defeated elements of a Landwehr unit from Corps Brand. One source state that the fighting took place near the town of Johannisburg (nowadays called Pisz). I've failed in finding any more detai...

Re: Occupation of latvian and estonian ports by German troops 1

Excellent, thank you. I learned from a Russian site that the Russian attack was performed (at least in part) by 5th NKVD motorized rifle battalion, including a number of BT tanks. Is (mot.)-Pi.-Btl.21 the 21st Infantry Division's organic pioneer battalion? What references I've found to it does not m...

Re: Occupation of latvian and estonian ports by German troops 1

http://www.feldgrau.com/dreichsbahn.html says that the railway bridge was destroyed on 2 July. My source mention this bridge being destroyed too, at the same time as the pontoon bridge StuGs had just crossed. There could have been > 1 railway bridge at that time, of course. Does anyone know if ther...

Re: Occupation of latvian and estonian ports by German troops 1

According to Sturmgeschütze - Die Panzer der Infanterie (Kurowski, p38) Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 185 drove through Riga and a platoon from this unit crossed the Daugava (Dvina) river on a Russian pontoon bridge. The Stug platoon was commanded by Oblt Geissler. The StuGs together with some assault eng...

German 4th Army Penal unit March 1943

A German penal battalion (construction troops, I believe) defended the small town of Kurkino (north of Spas-Demensk) on 17 March 1943. Kurkino lies within German 4th Army boundaries, although I don't know if they were subordinated this army. I assume they were primarly there to construct a segment o...

Re: Buffel

I'm looking for a information and maps covering Kurkino, north of Lazinki in the Spas-Demensk area. Here reinforced elements of the German 267. infantry division fought off heavy Russian tank attacks on 17 March 1943 (last phase of Büffel). I'm particularly interested in which of the Russian 50th Ar...
