Re: ONLY 1 (one)
The book I would like to nominate is "The Right Kind of War" by John McCormick. It is the story of the Third Squad of the elite Marine Raider batallion. It has one of the best stories I've ever read about the jungle Warfare between the US Marines and the Japanese army. In this story, which...

F. Heinicke-Torgau
I'm sorry, the fact that he was a Knight's Cross winner was taken form the following German passage: "In Waldheim zum Tode verurteilt und hingerichtet wurde auch der Ritterkreuzträger Friedrich Heinicke. Er erwarb sich schon den Ruf eines Satans als SA-Sturmführer und Stellvertreter des Lagerle...

Commander of Torgau
While surfing through the DDR Nazi Trial Website, I came accross this link http://www1.jur.uva.nl/junsv/ddr/ddropferengfr.htm, which had the name of a commander of Torgau Prison who supposedly was executed after the war. Unfortunately the last name is abreviated so the name appears to be Friedrich H...

How Prevalent was the use of captured Artillery Pieces?
Just a passing thought. I was looking at another post concerning a Volks Artillery unit and noted the amount of captured Russian pieces, one of a 122mm unit and also a 152mm unit. In the late war period, would it be an exageration to say that 20% of the Wehrmacht artillery strength was composed of c...

General casualties of Drumhead Court Martials
In an online essay about Nazi Military Justice, the author noted that two Wehrmacht Generals were executed by flying court martials.

Barbarossa is Still the best First book to read
I've been reading about the Eastern Front since 1968 and would still recoomend "Barbarosa" by Alan Clark as the best book to first read about the Eatsern front. Yes, it it outdated, lacking maps (it does have some)and only concentrates on some areas, but it makes up for this by introducing ...
