Luftwaffe Kriegstagebuch

In the interest of historical research, I've published the Kriegstagebuch of a Flaktransportbatterie at the following link: http://flaktraba.blogspot.com/ The diary runs from mid-May to early July 1940 and will be enlightening to anyone interested in the supply network of the Luftwaffe Bodenorganisa...

Technically "you" equates to the formal "Sie". The equivalent of "Du" is "thou", but only God uses that these days. And maybe some Yorkshire folk. It's common in the UK to start using people's first names straight off or quite soon after being introduced. This...

Um, lighten up. It's an exploding chocolate bar (and never used in practice). Why would anyone in MI5, prude or whatever, be going over thousands and thousands of 60 year old documents? The NA has merely released files into the public domain that have been hitherto undisclosed. And how does a sixty ...

If you don't believe...

... then go to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk The exploding chocolate bar belongs to a cache of documents just released into the public domain by the National Archives in Kew (catalogued under KV 4/284). If you go to the website, you can see a couple of pictures. The NA describes the stuff as &q...

2. Kompanie Luftwaffen-Bau-Bataillon 5./III There's not much, but you can find a little information at Michael Holm's website: http://www.ww2.dk/ground/pionier/baubtl.htm Read the introduction then find Lw.-Baubtl.5./III listed under Luftgau III. I presume such a construction unit was used by the Lu...

Hi Bladerunner,

Yup, I know these photos... The fat bum poking out in the middle of the top photo is attached to my grandfather, a Flak Leutnant.

Thanks anyway!

Luftverteidigungskommando 6

Can anyone help identify the Flak regiments / Flakgruppen, or possibly Flak-Abteilungen, which served under Lvkdo 6 in July 1940 (HQ in Waterloo, Belgium) and in May/April 1941 (HQ in Belgium under Generalmajor Odebrecht)?

Many thanks,
Karl

Thanks for the tip.

Are you able to estimate how well Schonherr covers the Luftwaffe's role in Roumania in 1944? I'm still trying to work out why my grandfather was located near Focsani (Focsain) in April 1944.

Best wishes,
Karl

There's a brief reference to it at Michael Holm's webiste, but not much to chew on: http://www.ww2.dk/ground/flak/ersabt.htm If I understand it correctly, a Flak-Ersatz-Abteilung was a holding unit within the Reich (in your case Breslau) from which Luftwaffe Flak personnel (recalled reservists, recr...
