Wow, really? Brilliant piece of deduction there. I didn't realise it was so impossible for people with Arab names to have been raised in the English speaking world.

Re: Who had the better strategy in Italy?

Mellenthin brought up some good counter arguments. Made me pause for a while. I would love to see an adequate response as I can't think of any right this moment. A cup of hot tea might help :D

German use of bayonet

Hello I wonder if bayonet training in the Heer was somewhat lagging behind that of Commonwealth armies. More than one Allied soldier has remarked that the Germans were good at laying down firepower but when confronted by bayonet charges folded up rather too easily. Input appreciated in advance. Than...

Really? Beats Heinz-Guenther Guderian's account as well?

Thanks Walter. I definitely will, if only to see why Kunikov had such a problem with the title :?

Should I get this book?

Hello

I'm toying with the idea of getting Glantz's "Zhukov's Greatest Defeat". It's selling at a used book store for an excellent price. Anyone think it's worth it?

Any recommendations for this book?

Hello

Thinking of buying "Dying for St. Lo" by Didieu Lodier. I'm mainly a Westfront enthusiast and am very particular about good source material and references for history books. I enjoy reading blow by blow accounts but also like delving into campaign analysis and poring over maps.

Question regarding the Firefly

Hello I am reading a book in which the author makes a negative comment about the accuracy of the 17 pounder on the Firefly version of the M4 Sherman. The gun was undoubtedly powerful but apparently the accuracy was questionable in long range firing. Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks in adva...

Re: Need some input

My two cents...you will be doing yourself an injustice if you don't read Doug's HG. If you are really interested in not only the how, where, but in making the whole disaster come to life, the feeling of the participants, the horror of what went on that shows so nearly on a map, you need to read thi...

Need some input

Hello I just got done reading Zetterling and Frankson's book about the Korsun battle and found it very informative. I know Doug's book Hell's Gate is about the same battle. I would like to know would it be worth reading Hell's Gate? I know it got excellent reviews and I esteem Doug highly as an auth...

Re the 2nd Panzer Army

Hello
The 2nd Panzer Army took part in the fighting around Orel during the Zitadelle offensive but was transferred to the Balkans soon after the fighting at Kursk had died out. Does anyone know why? Thanks in advance.
