Re: German view of the Sherman tank

Well the topic is called 'GERMAN view of the Sherman tank'. I therfor simply stated that, when asked about comparing allied tanks with thier own, the veterans only compared their tank with a T34 'cause they were convinced that a Sherman was no match for their Pz IV. That's all.

Re: German view of the Sherman tank

During interviews tankers of SS Pz.Rgt.1 - who served in a Pz.IV – only compared their tank with a T34. They believed that a US Sherman was no match for a Pz.IV manned by a experienced crew. Only because of their large numbers during combat they were seen as a threat.

A big thank you to John and Rudi for keeping us updated. Nice to see that some of the older gentlemen seem to be in a good condition.

Scharführer: It was you who started this topic, so it has to be you who should present sources or any other primary evidence to back up your opinion that Jens's book is crap. However, I see from your remarks that you lack any basic knowledge of this case and your primary source is internet. So, I re...

Well Scharführer, My offer wasn't serious  His first edition in Geman was published in 1996. In the meantime this has been 'updated' two times already and now published in English language. He had the courage to change his opinion on Peiper and some of his men because of new research and evide...

Mr. Scharführer,

If you really don't like it, send your copy to me and I will send you a symbolic payment of $1.00, so I can judge if it was worth it or not, and you are rid of it!

Do we have a deal?

Btw, why should Agte mentioned the Holocaust, since his work is on Peiper as Kommandeur! Someone who turns up which such a conclusion can't be taken seriously. One of the most important aspects of a published work must be objectivity. This is crucial if you want it taken seriously. After many years...

Hello Hans, Hope you're doing fine. Regarding time used by both sides: - References to clock time are on a twenty-four hour system. fortunately for nowadays researchers, writers and historians, the allies converted to British summer time on 17 September 1944 and the Germans went back to middle Europ...

Hello Marc, Very good post indeed!! Nothing to add as to why Mohnke was appointed divisional commander! I do however have some specific info to add concerning this topic. Back in 2001 I was told by a very credible LAH veteran that Peiper, in November 1944, wanted a change in command. Mohnke was obvi...
