Re: aircraft fuselage markings KG 26 (white band)

Hi, Just to add to the previous answer, most of Kampfgeschwader 26 only transferred to the Mediterranean in November 1942 after Operation TORCH had occurred, so if your photos date from late-1942, it is quite possible that the aircraft without fuselage bands were new arrivals, and there hadn't been ...

Hello Fabrizio, I can find one Ju 52 loss, Ju 52 Werknummer 180 526 of the I. Gruppe of Transportgeschwader 2, which crashed due to anti-aircraft fire at Monterotondo and was destroyed. The radio operator and gunner were both wounded, but the rest of the crew escaped unscathed. All the best, Andrew A.

Re: Luftwaffe during D-day/Normandy campaign

Hi, Luftwaffe ground-attack units were also active at Normandy on 6 June 1944: - Two FW 190 pilots of I./S.K.G. 10 were over the landings at dawn on a reconnaissance mission, and claimed four Lancasters shot down. - The FW 190s of III./S.G. 4 were active against the landings on D-Day, flying three m...

Re: Catford, Oblt Keller and Jabo's of JG54

Hi, I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but the best coverage of this raid is in Chris Goss' book Luftwaffe Fighter-Bombers Over Britain: The Tip and Run Campaign, 1942-43 , published by Crecy in 2003. The Catford attack is covered on pages 176 to 185. Goss says that the attack on Catford school ...
