Hi Annelie, Thanks for the other site details. I'll give them a bash later. I haven't got the details of the 23 (or so) volume series on me, but I should have them for tomorrow. Some articles in them are properly type set and were published as separate pamphlets by the US Army, mostly those on tacti...

Some time ago I asked a related question on this site. Apparently, the highest percentage losses suffered by any British Commonwealth unit in the Greek Campaign in April 1941 was borne by a Palestinian pioneer unit that was left behind in the Peloponese. Several thousand men were captured by the Ger...

The secret of the Blitzkrieg was not the quality of the tanks used but the quality of the tactics adopted and the men who applied them. Pz.Is were not capable of forcing a breakthrough on their own, but they were as capable as any other tank of exploiting a breakthrough, chewing up field telephone l...

Luftwaffe units readied to occupy Hungary in March 1944?
I have asked this one before, without getting a single reply. Perhaps now that the site has been made more specific I might have more luck....... What Luftwaffe units were readied to take part in Operation Margarethe - the occupation of Hungary on 19 March 1944? Presumably a good proportion of the L...

Danish torpedo boats "leased" by the Kriegsmarine
The Germans apparently brow beat the Danes into "leasing" them six torpedoboats in 1941 or 1942. They were handed over unarmed and subsequently use for training purposes.
Can anyone tell me which Kriegsmarine unit used them and where they were based in August 1943?
Thanks.

Just as well the Bomb Plot failed?
It is, perhaps, just as well that the Bomb Plot failed. In November 1918 Germany was defeated, but was able to evade facing this reality because it accepted an armistice whilst its armies still everywhere stood on foreign soil. This allowed the growth of the "stab in the back" myth in whic...

I trust a society in which civilians possess guns is not the end goal? Surely the aim is to produce a society in which they are not needed? Is anyone actually defending the private possession of firearms as an end goal rather than a necessary way point on the route to a truly civil society? Secondly...

Lindh - allegedly Taliban or Al Quaeda?
Was Lindh allegedly Taliban or Al Quaeda?
If he was Taliban then I cannot see that he was a terrorist against the USA.
On the other hand, if he was in Al Quaeda he can have been under few illusions as to its anti-American terrorism and intentions.
Which was he?

I have recaptured this terminal. One more point. Whilst the impartiality of both Poles and Germans must be supect on subjects that are of mutual disagreement between them, there is no reason to doubt the collective impartiality of other nationalities who have no particular axe to grind on such subje...

I think it highly likely that Germans were descriminated against in Poland between the wars. However, this was not a problem peculiar to Poland as a host nation or to Germans as a minority. Nationalism was rife in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe between the wars, indeed it was the raison...

Brigade Doehla. Composition in July-August 1943?
Can anyone tell me the composition of the German "Brigade Doehla" which seems to have been used to enter northern Italy from Croatia in July or August 1943?
Many thanks.
