Re: Luftwaffe units and losses over Dunkirk 1040 ?
any GERMAN (!) books and information on the Luftwaffe units engaged over Dunkirk during the British evacuation between 27 May and the early hours of 4 June 1940 ? The RAF claimed 262 Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed over Dunkirk which is clearly preposterous. Churchill must have been smoking something ...

Re: Cant Z 506 vs Me110
On september, 16th, 1943, in the area of Stampalia (Aegean Sea), there was a clash between a seaplane Cant Z 506 of the 147^ Squadriglia of the Regia Aeronautica (based in Leros, fighting alongside Allies) and two Me110: the seaplane was shot down but, according to the source herebelow, succeeded t...

Re: M35 minesweepers
Does any one know about the construction of these minesweepers? I read in Groner’s volume's that these ships had armored steel installed in the bridge plus chine reinforced hulls? They basic construction was welded steel and had a dozen water tight compartments and like more traditional German wars...

Re: Which city should hitler have gone for on the russian front?
I say Leningrad for several reasons. Compared with other important cities on the Soviet front it had the shortest, and best (shipping) transport route, because it was on the flank the conquest of it would have freed up German forces and further improved transport facilities on that flank. That is no...

Re: ships needed for Sealion
According to http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=1145 the number was 27. Not what I would consider "quite a few". Had they deployed for SeaLion it's not at all clear how many would still have been operational by the time they were needed either. I have seen that figure before and it w...

Re:
more uboats would have helped sealion greatly. the failure to subdue england was hitler's first great blunder. Quite a few German subs were available for Sealion. Dønitz was set at using all his resources for the operation. As such, I believe his thinking was correct. If the operation had succeeded...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe
You are mentioning September, October... If there was ever an excellent moment to invade Great Britain, it was in June or July. unfortunately.... 1/ that wasn't the plan; even for the mid-September jumpoff or "three-day readiness order" the shipping wasn't gathered or ready; when Halder v...

Hi, Paul, it does count. As I wrote I have advanced an amount to the Forum. However, to keep track I need to know that a Forum member - is a member - when he orders from me.

Re: Stalingrad. Antony Beevors
Any of you guys out there have studied or pondered the alternative concept of the Wehrmacht by-passing Stalingrad, concentrating slightly South occupying Rostov, Kalmykia and Astrakhan- thus securing the Northern flanks of a drive to conquer the caucasus and seize the majority of Stalin's oil produ...

Re: questions on the Ramcke Brigade
I know that the original question here has not been answered, but the title seemed ideal to me & I did not want to create another "Ramcke" thread. Did the Battalions that made up the Brigade in 1942 have any sub machine guns or machine pistiols issued to them? Most T.o&E that I ha...
