German Artillery Target types
When Heer artillery at Divisional or GHQ level fired on targets what types of fire were they trying to achieve? Did they fire all the guns on a point, or into a box area or onto a line and how did this relate to the overall artillery plan? I have German Artillery orders from an ARKO showing a Target...

Re: WW1 Books.
Through German Eyes is an excellent book as it balances the oft repeated "Lions led by Donkeys" theory. Duffy is an excellent historian and fluent in German, I had the pleasure of traveling around Germany, Poland and Czechoslovakia with him on a tour of the battlefields of the Seven Years ...

Re: Ein Anlehnen - A left ajar??
Here is the whole stanza: 4.

My on-line dictionary does not seem to like the ß character. I tried "säße" (would sit) and "äße" (should eat) and "Grundsaße" did not get any answer. Is this because it is 'older' German and not 'modern' German I wonder? Am using the following: PROMT, Google Translate,...

Re: Die Führungs- und Kampfgrundsäße
So that would make it: "The Command and Battle principles are the same in the Positional Warfare as in the Mobile Warfare." It is the character 'ß' that seems to be causing me difficulties especially when written in Fraktur. Grundsäße is correct is it not or am I reading the Fraktur incorr...

Die Führungs- und Kampfgrundsäße
What is does "Die Führungs- und Kampfgrundsäße" mean from the phase
2. Die Führungs- und Kampfgrundsäße sind im Stellungskrieg die gleichen wie im Bewegungskriege.
It is the "äße" bit that I find odd "should eat"

Re: eingefechten and sprengfertig
Thank you for this.
The Sprengfertig refers to close combat anti-tank weapons so that makes sense.
The eingesechten or eingeseßten is not so clear.
The context is as follows:
Die eingeseiften Panzerabwehrwaffen eröffnen selbständig das Feuer.
