Re: Uniform information please

Bobbie: If he was in the leichte artillerie, then that would explain the riding breeches and boots he's wearing, as he was probably in a horse-drawn unit. I also notice he wears some sort of cufftitle on his sleeve, but cannot read it. He appears to be SS, though I only say this due to what appears ...

Re: Ammunition wagons

Reinhard, I don't consider it off topic, I consider it good input! Anytime anyone has a good story to tell, I would be glad to hear it. And I think that you are probably correct in assuming that the cart was in use by the Wehrmacht, as it still has its horses hitched to it. Btw, I just noticed that ...

Re: Ammunition wagons

I'm not much of a historian, but I do know that during the fall and spring rains in Russia, the panje cart was about the only thing that could move. It was light, and had wide wheels and wide axles, which would distribute weight. If you'll note, most of the peasant wagons had stake sides, rather tha...

Re: Ammunition wagons

Reinhard, thanks for the foto. It would appear that the cart on the left might actually be a peasant wagon, but this is just judging by the front wheel and what little I can see of the body. But the pic is great!

Re: Ammunition wagons

Oh, come now! Tom, that sounds like a challenge to me! And yes comrade Comissar, blacksmithing is an art, which both I and my step-father practice. He is much better than I, and does some beautiful ornamental iron work.

Re: Ammunition wagons

1/1, full size for a team of horses. Yes, I know, sounds crazy, but a bored blacksmith is never idle very long! Besides, a cart about the size of one of the two wheeled rigs would be handy on the farm, especially in the wet seasons when the roads are impassable for motor vehicles.

Re: Ammunition wagons

Thanks guys!
Great site, Richard, very helpful. Sat down at the drafting table last night to try and sketch out some formal plans.
Will try to post some pics when I get it built.

Re: Inglorious Basterds (2009 film)

It's like this, kameraden: Uniforms - Sehr Gut Scenery - Gut Plot - Erm... lacking Actors - Gruss GOTT!! (Monocle falls from left eye.. again) Get them out of my SIGHT! (Replaces monocle and stalks off) So basically, this movie "breaks even" in my book, though I went out and bought it on D...

Ammunition wagons

Best I can tell, this is the place for this question: Can anybody tell me about some of the small horse-drawn two-wheeled ammunition carts/wagons used by the Wehrmacht? Specifically, plans/blueprints/good pictures, so that I might build something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regar...

{monocle falls out of left eye} Ohhh KAY! moving right along... {returns monocle to eye and lights cigarette} Anybody else need a slight libation before continuing in this line of discussion? {turns on heel and walks back to bar} Just kidding. I would imagine that to be a fairly good way to remain i...

Re: What do you collect?

Oh, most generally anything relating to the Heer. 98 Gebirgsjaeger and 7. Infanterie are my personal favorites. Have a cavalry rig, too, and am trying to find or build one of the old ammunition carts. Oh yeah, and guns, too. Like those a lot but can't get too many more, or else the lady would have a...

Hero
Thank you for the link. And you were correct: it was the 296 Inf. Btw, that's a great site.
