Verhoeven "Forgotton Soldier"
Doug, Have you ever determined what happened to Verhoeven's "The Forgotton Soldier" project? I see that Verhoeven's documentary "The Unknown Soldier" is now available on DVD. Do you know whether or not this was in fact the project you were referring to back in 2002? Best, Lexxx

Stalingrad: Lyudnikov
Can anyone post the rather famous picture of Russian general Lyudnikov in his command post at Stalingrad? I cannot find it anywhere.

Best War Books
No list can be complete without: The Tortured Earth (a.k.a. The Stalin Front) by Gert Ledig - easily one of the best war novels ever written. Siege by Russ Schneider is also at or very near the top of the list. Payback, also by Gert Ledig, about one night in a unnamed German city during a U.S. bombe...

I have the Operation Blue and Battle of Stalingrad atlases. They are basically reduced size photocopies of the much larger originals. Some of the geographical names are difficult to read and some of the unit designations are hard to see because the copies are black and white. As are as the informati...

Island of Fire
Your timing is perfect -- I had the honor of touring the Barrikady factory today, 24 August 2007, with Jason Mark as the historical guide. Almost all of the major strongpoints mentioned in Island of Fire are still there. Needless to say, Jason knows the Barrikady like the back of his hand and can de...

Hitler Moves East by Paul Carell
With used copies of HITLER MOVES EAST by PAUL CARELL selling for $75-100 on Ebay, can anyone tell me why no military publisher has picked up this title for re-print?

Heinrich
Don'f forget MARK OF SHAME which takes place in postwar Germany and THE CRUMBLING FORTRESS. But watch out for THE WILLING FLESH which is an alternate title for CROSS OF IRON. RAPE OF HONOR, although Heinrich, is not a war novel. Quite frankly, although CROSS OF IRON gets all the press, I like CRACK ...

I couldn't agree more.
I truly believe that my life's passions, interests, and hobbies would be very different but for those Wotan novels I devoured between the ages of 12-16.
