Re: The Heer and the Party

Hello Tom and Liam I agree on both the postwar perspective and the authority gained by combat experience as the major reasons for the expansion. As the Heer was expanded, the Waffen SS had to keep pace somehow not to be considered of no importance. This considerably strained the organisation and led...

Re: Valhalla's Warriors - A Review.

Hello Phylo What I try to convey is that even if we have the most homogenous group ever on earth, still group responsability as a moral concept is flawed and would also not stand up to today's judicial standards (I'm not saying moral and justice are the same by this) Certainly the Waffen must be cal...

Re: Valhalla's Warriors - A Review.

Hello Sid In my opinion, the Waffen-SS was constructed in too varied a way to allow for reasonable applicability of group responsibility. . This is not the point. Even if the Waffen-SS would have been made up from 100% volunteering Reichsdeutsche clones, the concept of group responsability would be ...

Re: Valhalla's Warriors - A Review.

Hello "As a moral concept I see the issue of group responsibility being acceptable". The same moral (and legal) view was shared by the Nazis and was called "Sippenhaft". It's generally accepted as being not tolerable. I find it remarkable that a writer on evil can accept such an ...

Re: The Heer and the Party

Hello Sid Now I’m really disappointed. I asked for proof that the Waffen SS was expanded “because of the Nazi Regime was nervous about the Heer being a centre of power it couldn’t control”. Besides your own unfounded interpretations (I thought I made it clear that I didn't want another dose of this)...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Martin Still June allocations: 6. Pz. Div: 234/3. The unit received its full quota of 16 sPSW during the next months. I think the 3 x 234/3 were allocated either this month or in August 1944. The allocation in September were 10 x 234/1. There were no 232 and/or 233 issued this month (Übersichten Jun...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Hello Martin Now to the allocation you added my name for lack of sources. If you permit I will go by the system I have chosen as explained this morning. The 234/2 to the Ersatzheer SS. The allocation is marked as such in the Zuführungsliste May 1944 and confirmed by the monthly overview OKH Waffenam...

Re: The Heer and the Party

Hello

The Waffen SS was expanded because the Nazi Regime was nervous about the Heer beeing a centre of power it couldn't control?

Is it too much to ask to show some proof (meaning hard facts and not another the world in Sid's eyes)?

Cheers
Hans

Re: Barbarossa and the Preventative War... again

Hello Phylo Partisan views, I was looking for a word like this. Yes. We have as a fact that negotiations happened at a certain point. If we consider that these negotiations were rather important (ie preventing a major conflict), it is actually surprising to see they failed. And the reason for it can...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Hello Martin Thanks for the comments. It's ok to go month by month, so I can point out the sources and thoughts behind the allocation marked "Hans Weber" I will try to comment on this later, kind of busy today. A quick reply to two issues: - As the title implies this is an alllocati...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Here is the new version of the Allocation list of Sd.Kfz 234/1, 234/3 and 234/4 The following list is made from the allocation reports found at the BAMA at Freiburg under the signature number RH 10/349 and RH 10/350, and the files of OKH/Waffenamt, NARA T 78 Roll 169 - BAMA RH 8 The Sdkfz 234/1 and ...

Re: Barbarossa and the Preventative War... again

Hello Of course they asked him. Drax and Doumenc returned with empty hands in August 1939. The fiasco as viewed later in Soviet propaganda was due to that both didn't have any real power to negotiate at all when the Soviet proposed to get real with concrete attack plans (which - no big surprise - co...

Re: Barbarossa and the Preventative War... again

Hello and pulled out of the international diplomatic front against Germany, rather than stay in via the Polish and French treaties and get dragged into the war they saw coming It's even a tick more clever. Stalin declined the urgent pleas of the Entente to join the the Brits and French granting Sove...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Hello Ruy This is the first car of 11th troop, 1st Company, 2. Pz Division as captured in Normandy. Hohenstaufen didn't have any 234/1 and 234/3 at Arnhem. They were only issued 6 older 231/232 in 1943, of which some were lost by September 1944. They were issued 4 x 234/1 and 3 x 234/3 in November 1...

Re: The Sd. Kfz. 234 Thread!!!

Hello Ruy Nice model. Nordland didn't have any 234/2 I know of. It wasn't even a Panzer-Division. The only SS unit issued 234/2 was LAH (and 150th Pz. Brigade for that matter, not exactly a SS unit). Hubert Meyer says some were issued to Hitlerjugend, though this was not proven in any of the officia...
