Dutch SS veterans, Korea

Hey everyone...just an interesting, kind of SS related question to put out to you experts: Yesterday, while at my VFW station, I started a conversation with an American veteran of the Korean War. He told me that during the Korean War, he met several members of the Dutch Contigent....apparently..many...

George Robert Elford

Hey everybody...has anybody heard, or read this book, called George Robert Elford? It is about former SS members, and anti-partisan veterans of the eastern front, who put their skills to very good use against the Viet Minh in Frencg Indochina. Would you recommend it? It is valid? Thank you -Fritz Kl...

Close Combat

I'm just wondering, in World War 2, especially on the Eastern front, how common was hand-to-hand fighting and such? I'm just comparing it to my own military experience, when much time was spent training for it, but at no time ever in my two combat tours was the command to "Fix bayonets" ev...

Interesting....

It's interesting to here how how little you and other veterans were troubled by the adjustment. My father served in the Heer on the Eastern Front, and saw terrible things, but talked of it like it was a day at the park. I wonder if this has anything to do with German society as a whole being affecte...

My own experience of telling what happened...

I agree with what was said, that veterans should only tell what happened once they are ready, and willing to, and not be hounded. I served two tours in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry, Tropic Lightning, and until late last year, I hadn't told a single story to anybody. Ever since I left the country i...

PTSD etc..etc....affecting Germanys veterans?

Hello. I have an interesting question I don't think has been brough up here before: How common was/is Post Traumadic Stress Syndrome among Germanys veterans? I've talked to many, and heard hundreds of accounts, and it seems that it was not as much as a problem as it has been with other countries, li...
