Ron Klages wrote: The US leaders did not grasp where Stalin was going and they believed him to be an honorable man of his word.
That was true of Roosevelt, but not many others in the U.S. government.

But for anyone--even a Sovietphile--to even insinuate that the victory was anything besides sheer weight in number, is absurd. ...Or how the Soviet's "tactics" evolved during the war. What tactics? Kid, what do you know about Soviet Army and their tactics? And what do you know about WW2? ...

The object of war is not "simply to win". It is to win with as many of your own people still standing as possible, or, as I put it last time, by the widest margin possible. It would profit the "victor" little, if his margin of victory is to have the last man standing - alone! Ch...

Do they?
I doubt if most Americans educated in the last 20 years know where or what Europe is.

I wonder though, if Churchill and Roosevelt actually knew what they were consigning those nations to when they let "Uncle Joe" have them. Did they really believe that they were to be liberated from oppression? Could they possibly have known or anticipated what ended up happening? Tom, I b...

I heard from a German who apparently prefers to remain anonymous -
he says the 210 is tread width in mm, and the 18 is rim diameter in inches.
That seems to work out.

German Tire Size (question for the Germans)

The tire size for the Sd. Kfz. 222/223 is given as 210 x 18.
How does one interpret these numbers? What would be the overall diameter of such a tire?
Danke.

Torquez, Thanks for that information. I have read about Soviet atrocities and mass murder in Poland in September 1939, but none of this. Your link: http://www.projectinposterum.org/docs/survivors.htm did not work for me, but this one does, and gives a directory of all the papers on the subject. http...

That happed because of the titanic efforts on part USSR as well faulty German planning –half the world hardly had anything to do with it. I would be the first to recognize the overwhelming contribution of the USSR to the defeat of Hitler. Without that contribution, his defeat would have had to awai...

Anyone agree with these points? Disagree? Uli, I'm not sure that the USSR was ever on it's last legs, but the capture of Moscow in December, 1941 might well have precipitated that. The German failure at Moscow, however, had nothing to do with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on the 7th. The day...
