Re: Simple question about German gun sizes.

The L/ number is the length of the gun in calibers. Or how many bore diameters long the gun is from muzzle to breech. ie. a (5 cm L/60) is (60 x 5cm) or (3 m) long So for your example: 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48: 7.5 cm x 48 = 360 cm 360 cm converted to Metes = 3.6 M in total length. Or for all of us who u...

Logic for a Sd.Kfz 251/1 as a Mortar Platoon HQ vehicle?

I specifically would like to direct any responses to this question towards its use within the heavy mortar platoons of an Armored Aufklarungs Company mid to late 1944 - 45, but possibly due to the lack of specific information about Aufklarungs 251/1 in a Mortar Company HQ a discussion in general abo...

Re: Searching For a German Movie

Apt Pupil is Based off of a Steven King Book that is very dark and violent. The movie, though dark, lacks the large amounts of violence the book has and is focused more on the use of manipulation where a young Boy Blackmails a former SS officer into sharing his past and the effects of the SS officer...

K.St.N translation Struggle for "zugl." in Heer Organization

I have been looking at the Awesome Website WWIIdaybyday (http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/) where there are a ton of K.St.Ns' depicted in graphics with titles and positions of German soldiers that were in that organization. Under a number of them are listed titles such as : " Funker (zugl.Melder), 2...

Re: FLZ-PZ-Auf-Abt-“Hermann Göring” Organization vs "Scouts Out"

Alan, Thank you for the great response! I should have put a big smiling laughing face by my comment about the Sdkfz 234/4. It was suppose to be a joke. I have been lurking around WWII history boards looking into the HG for a while and have come across as you say, and I totally agree with, “M...

Re: Air Plane Kill Marks

redcoat,

I realized that I was extremely rude and never thanked you for your response. It helped me out a great deal, and I greatly appreciate the direction it gave me. Being over three years old I am very embarrassed that it took me such a long time to respond to your help.

Thank you again

FLZ-PZ-Auf-Abt-“Hermann Göring” Organization vs "Scouts Out"

I just finished reading Robert Edwards book Scouts Out and I was hoping to find a clarification, or new ideas and or answers. In his organization for the HG Aufklarungs Abt for September 1944— he list the second company as "2nd Light Self-Propelled Battery". Does anyone know what type of S...

Re: Sdkfz 251/7 Pioneer Assault Bridge

Alan, Thank you very much! Perfectly clear and concise sorry about the long posts, tend to add to much to hopefully end conversations directions that are off topic by leaving opportunities due to being vague. As for Pionier Zugs in the schwere Kompanie that is my real focus with this question. I fin...

Sdkfz 251/7 Pioneer Assault Bridge

I was hoping that someone could explain or point me in the direction to discover how the Sdkfz 251/7 's "Assault Bridge", I have also come across it being called an "Assault Ramp", was actually used. I get that something drives over it... not that dense to understand its function...

Thank you!

That is the best lead and most informative explanation as to what their purpose was and that I have come in contact with.

Thank you for the time and clarifications!

Re: What is a Fallschirm-Panzerkorps Hermann Göring Fusilier?

Alan, Thank you for taking the time to read and then respond to my inquiry especially for the clarifications considering “GD” and their Fusiliers, I’ll stop looking at them for guidance. Also thank you for taking the time to look up the organization in Alfred Otte's book. I also wish to apologize fo...

What is a Fallschirm-Panzerkorps Hermann Göring Fusilier?

Please forgive the length of this post I am trying to hopefully cut down on tangents and information that is valid, but valid only in the early years of the war. Also please forgive my lack of citing original material. I am currently living in Brazil, and acquiring materials, and even the most basic...

Air Plane Kill Marks

Does anyone have a good source of information on the identification and use of Kill Marks that the US used to mark their aircraft, specifically fighter planes such as the P – 47? I am not looking so much for info on long-range bombers. I am trying to find out what the differences are between the use...
