Re: Eastern Panzerjaeger Units Rebuilt near Antwerp in 1944?
Hi Alan, A lot of fresh paint to add to vehicle in 24-36 hours by two very different owners, but I agree there is no evidence to say it didn't happen. This is one of those little bits of history that makes me want to get on a plane to Amsterdam and rent a car for a road trip to Antwerp. Best Regards...

Re: Eastern Panzerjaeger Units Rebuilt near Antwerp in 1944?
Several posts by Martin Block in the following thread develop a timeline for Pz.Jg.Abt.719 entering the fighting against the Merxem bridgehead on 7-Sept-44, but the Signal Corps photo of the captured Marder I with the kill rings is dated 8-Sept-44. I will try to see if I can find a source for Britis...

Eastern Panzerjaeger Units Rebuilt near Antwerp in 1944?
I am trying to rule out the possibility that the Marder I below used by resistance fighters in the liberation of Antwerp in September 1944 was a vehicle left behind in depot by a refitting Eastern Front Panzerjaeger unit. I know Martin Block has identified this vehicle as belonging to Pz.Jg.Abt.719,...

Re: T-34 and SU-85 service in 2./Pzjager abt. 128
Yes, "To the Caucasus and the Austrian Alps: The History of the 23.Panzer-Division in World War II" (ISBN 9780921991953) is the book I was referencing. I assume Rebentisch had a earlier edition published in German, but the newer JJF published edition is a English translation with some revi...

Re: T-34 and SU-85 service in 2./Pzjager abt. 128
Rebentisch's history of the 23. Pz.Div. has all the details you are looking for about Pz.Jg.Abt. 128. The 2.Kp was converted to beutepanzers at the end of Apr44 with 12 vehicles (Listed as T-34, T-43s, and SU-85s). Per my previous post additional captured vehicles where picked up by 2.Kp, but losses...

Re: T-34 and SU-85 service in 2./Pzjager abt. 128
A 2.Kompanie/Panzerjaeger-Abteilung 128 combat report from 2 June 1944 reprinted in Jentz & Regemberg's Panzer Tract No.19-2 seems to indicate that at as many as 5 T-34s and 3 SU-85s were with the unit during the 30 May- 2 June time period. Of that number one T-34 was a write-off and one of the ...

Re: Bergepanzer Kompanies?
Thank you Mr. Block!
I hope one day I will get to buy something from you to help repay for all your answers. Considering all your posts on the various forums, you must have published a 400+ page book by now!

Chris Ballance

Bergepanzer Kompanies?
I see in references to bergepanzer kompanies in Jentz's Panzer Tracts and some lists posted by Martin Block, but could not find a K.St.N. for a Berg.Pz.Kp. In Lukas Friedli's "Die Panzer Instandsetzung der Wehrmacht" book. Maybe I missed it my German is still below Kindergarden level. Howe...

Re: Forthcoming JJF: 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch
I agree with you about the cult of the 'new' photo. However, just today I came across a ebay photo showing a single Pz. III trying to recover a KV-1 in muddy field. I must admit would have spent more than a few dollars to see the rest of the series....or at least read the story of how the effort tur...

Re: Forthcoming JJF: 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch
I understand where you're coming from Uncle Joe, but modelers and nuts & bolts types are looking for cleaned up, well captioned photos of specific vehicles/vehicle variants. These customers will be lucky to get 96 pages of what they would consider useful photos out of a 550 page JJF book. Combat...

Re: Forthcoming JJF: 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch
Well, I just pre-ordered the 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch book from JJF. So I will give my two cents when it arrives. In addition to Panthers, Pz.Rgt. 201(23) and the 128. Panzerjäger Abt. operated a interesting collection of captured French and Russian tanks. Considering operational reports from ...

Re: Fire Brigades, The Panzer Division, 1943-1945
After my first pass through Karmen's Fire Brigades, I was reminded of the day I first picked up Shelby Stanton's Wold War II Order of Battle: US Army Ground Forces 39-46. The scopes and the writing styles are different, but the impression was the same, "This is some good...(edited for content t...

Thanks Piet, I have wondered a good deal about this issue for some time as well. There is an art to paper work.

Re: Fire Brigades, The Panzer Division, 1943-1945
I received my copy yesterday and spend around 3 hours jumping around in the text and digging into Jentz's "Panzer Truppen 2" to compare relative bits of organizational history. I am not the person to write a detailed review, but I am very pleased with "Fire Brigades." Its amazing...
