Re: German view of the Sherman tank

My favorite is the Germans fear of the multi barreled British anti-tank gun. See Hubert Meyer and a Stackpole book on German Panzers in Normandy featuring Hans Eberbach who also mentions the gun. Have also read of the 'special' shells used in Normandy by the Brits (Eberbach called them 'glass' shel...

Re: US soldier photo.

Lack of shoulder tabs or NCO stripes suggest this was a private. This may be a recruit in training. They were often photographed in a formal portrait style like this. Perhaps the photo was then reproduced by the Texas photgraphic shop for or by his family/girl friend.

Re: did the german wehrmacht recycle

As a artilleryman I can say what happens to the usefull spent material. It goes back with the ammo vehicals when convienient after their delivery. From miscl reading on German industry I know items like nickle aluminum, brass or copper were extremely valuable. Mid war the artillery projectiles were ...

Re: V-2 on Moscow ?

No Allied occupied Paris in 1944 / Nothing for Joe Stalin ? Add to that list the Remagen Bidge area. While the engineer battalio...

Re: German Internees in France come 1940

Re: German view of the Sherman tank

I've never heard or read of any. Have seen parts of British and Soviet documents on the subject, but nothing from the Germans or Italians. They captured the very first examples in late 1942, so they must have compared favorablly with the standard MkIII & MkIV models current with the Germans then...

Re: American Helmets

My father went on active service (from ROTC) in june 1941. He told us the flat helmets were being replaced in the training schools then (Army Air Forces), & when he joined his squadron in January or Febuary 1942 the squadron equipment included round helmets. My guess is the distribution was not ...
