'Biased' is the wong word. I would call him a patriot of his country who wants to bring some clarity to the event of Chaerkassy operation from Russian perspective. Go ahead Yuri and post rarely available information.mellenthin wrote:Yurie is clearly extremely biased.

Re: 500 tanks battle in Rumania, May'44?
The historic truth is that 5th Guards Tank Army and 2-nd Tank Army from the period from 1.05.44 to 6.05.44 lost 215 tanks and not 500 as Manteuffel was saying to Liddel Hart. According to report of the Armor Department of the 2-nd Ukrainian Front dated 6.05.44 the 5th Grds Tank Army had 215 operati...

Re: HG vs Russian Third Tank Corps on 29.07.44
If the evening of 12 July, in "HG" were only 20 Jagdpz. IV (9 PzJg IV combat ready, 8 PzJg IV in short-term repair, 3 PzJg IV in long-term repair), it means that 11 Jagdpz. IV were totaly lost during 28.7.44-12.8.44, but not for the entire month, and between 13.8.44-1.9.44 - were totaly l...

Panzeralex, Thanks on the info of HG Jg Pz! As far as losses of 2 TA are concerned they were known to me before and were published before by Zolotorev in his Terra Poland volume. It is important to underline that these losses were taken in combats not only with HG division but also with 4 P.D, 19 P....

Re: HG vs Russian Third Tank Corps on 29.07.44
Martin, Thanks for the information on HG Jg. Pz IVs! You are right, the 3 Bef.Pz. IV were most likely included in The 64 Pz. IV. I just checked it at Jentz and Kamen book. As far as the source for information for 37 Pz IV as of 1.09.44 we should probably ask him through the PM. PS. Martin, by the wa...

Re: 500 tanks battle in Rumania, May'44?
Manteuffel to B.H.Liddel Hart: "A tank battle developed in which a total of some five hundred tanks were involved on the two sides. The Russians were repulsed, and only 60 of their tanks got away, most of them damaged. I lost only 11 of mine." The historic truth is that 5th Guards Tank Ar...

Re: How many russian die in war against Japan?
12031 in three weeks. It is much. "Too often soldiers fall victim to their preconceptions about potential adversaries' patterns of behavior. A popular notion among U.S. officers is that military history in the Soviet Union consists of little but propaganda broadsides to justify Soviet actions....

Re: Red Army Failure at Cherkassy
Volksdeutsche are germans in foreign countries, simply ethnic germans, f.e. most volunteers (and later conscripts) of the WSS from Hungaria were ethnic germans (this topic was widly pointed out by Rudolf Pencz in the history of the 31th SS-Div, by Wilhelm Tieke in the history of the 18th SS-PGD and...

It is enough to look at the composition of the Waffen-SS in 1944-45 Even then if looked at the WSS at whole 2/3 of th epersonell were Deutsche or Volksdeutsche... What about the source to support your claims? And what is your defenition of Volksdeutsche? [und we did not talk about WS, but about the...

Re: Red Army Failure at Cherkassy
Already to the middle 1944 about 50 % non-Germans in the Wehrmacht's formations and units were not rare. Any useable proof for this claim? It is enough to look at the composition of the Waffen-SS in 1944-45 to see that the whole formations were often comprising mostly from non-Germans like the III....
