Re: "Battleground Prussia" extra maps

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, Klaus, but the day job has been a bit mad. I'll try to mail the maps to you this weekend.

Re: Feldgrau author: Prit Buttar

My apologies for not replying sooner. Yes, there are some first person accounts in the new book, but also a lot more 'hard research' than the first book. In many respects, it's a book without heroes. Neither of the two powers that occupied the Baltic States behaved well, and the citizens of the stat...

Re: 14 Panzer Division, November 1944

Thank you, Jerry. So Unrein returned while the battle was ongoing, and took command again, much like Betzel with 4th Panzer Division a few weeks later in the 3rd Battle of Courland.

Cheers

14 Panzer Division, November 1944

Dear all Martin Unrein commanded this division from October 1943 until February 1945, but I understand that he was away from the division due to illness throughout Sept/Oct/Nov 1944, during which time he was replaced by Oskar Munzel. However, Kurowski refers to Unrein as commanding the division duri...

Re: Dünaburg/Daugavpils, July 1944

Jerry and Piet

That's very helpful (and commendably quick!).

Can you give me sources for this information? Also, lexikonderwehrmacht puts II Corps still with Army Detachment Narva during the summer of 1944.

Dünaburg/Daugavpils, July 1944

Dear all The eminently readable, if not entirely reliable, Otto Carius suggests that the German 190 Inf.Div. was involved in the fighting for Daugavpils, but given that this division was created in the west several weeks later, it seems unlikely to be correct. Can anyone tell me what German units - ...

Re: Messy compound sentence

It's really untidy, isn't it? There's a spelling error or two in my post that don't help! My own version was something like: With regard to Model's strict order, the division carried out the barely justified dual mission of continuing the Stolpce attack to seal the Usca sector from Olchowka to the r...

Messy compound sentence

I get the general drift, but can anyone give me a tidy translation of this?

6 Pz Div histories

Dear all

For a single book that covers 6 Pz.Div. both at the beginning of Barbarossa and the fighting near Vilnius in 1944, which of these two books might you recommend?

Wolfgang Paul - Brennpunkte: Die Geschicte der 6. Pz Div

Helmut Ritgen - The 6th Panzer Division 1937-45

Tom, I'm guessing it is Jelgava Street, but it would be nice to be certain!

Any citizens of Riga here?

Can anyone tell me the modern name of the street in Riga - on the west bank, close to the old road bridge - known to the Germans as Mitauer Strasse?
