Was the Typhoon supposed to replace the Spitfire but failed and became a ground support aircraft? Seems I read that someware long ago, if true what was it's failure points?

My divsion was shipped out in April of '42, a few days before we went aboad they took our old helmets and issued the new style, the liners were made of some kind of material that didn't last very long, then we got the new type liner, i don't remember the date but the original liners were crap.

Thanks Andy for the info. I notice that the ships are civilian crewed, in the Pacific i know the RN officers liked the US Navy supply ships where commissioned and crewed by US Naval personal, i think RN officers would feel more at home giving orders and dealing with other RN officers. IMO
