Patrick, Whiting is mentioning the official account which says that "he forced the remaining five to surrender" and right after it he's pointing that all of the Germans were killed, none captured.

Sadly, in the book is no mention if they were killed during the fight or while surrendering.

Here's a breathtaking action for which Muprhy received a Distinguished Service Cross: 15. August 1944, Southern France after the landing at Ramatuelle. Audie Murphy advanced inland with his squad but was halted by intense machine gun and small arms fire from a boulder covered hill to his front. Acti...

Audie Murphy - an American hero

Audie Murphy was an illiterate boy living on a Texas' farm. During WW2 serving in 1st Battalion 15th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry division in Italy, Southern France and Alsace he killed at least 240 German soldiers! After the war he became a famous Hollywood actor and starred in 40 war movies. Mem...

Hi Hawk. Sorry, I don't have exact numbers. Exact losses of concrete German divisions are also unknown. The only I know is that 116. Panzer Division has lost at least 1800 men.

Has anyone noticed the 116. Panzer Division badge on one of the truck's door?
I agree with Uli that the German soldiers were portrayed very realistically - exhausted, hungry and dirty.

Timm: Thanks for the information. Nibelung: Losses of American 1st Army were 24 000 + 9000 ill and exhausted men. German losses were at least 28 000 men. The whole area was cleared on 5. February when the Schwammenauel dam was captured. The whole battle lasted for over 5 months, although the perriod...

Re: 6. Inf.Div.

Gren.Ers.Btl. 58 was a replacement battalion for 6. Inf.Div. which indeed fought in the East. Fritz Tillmanns and another veteran who lives next to my place were both wounded during their engagement in the East. After recovering from their wounds they were send to Gren.Ers.Btl. 37 (also a replaceme...

Stefan, I think that an unprotected German artillery battery in Huertgenwald was nothing exceptional. 28. Infantry Division couldn´t use any tanks and other motorized equipment as well, because of the Kall river bridge that was unpassable for them. Air force wasn´t supporting the ground units, becau...

A movie I've always wanted to see would be about operation Sea Lion, the invasion of Britain that never took place. It would be from perspectives of both - Germans and English soldiers as well.
