Re: How to pronounce Marseille
In german, you pronounce Marseille almost as in french or english. But a non french-speaking german
pronounce it a bit more like mar-see, a german familar with french pronounce it more like mar-say.
Noone would pronounce it Mar-sale. Same for his nickname, its pronounced like say or sey.

Re: Kukurutz
Guten Tag Helmut! I will give it a try. But we have to dig a bit. I hope you have already some knowledge in south-east european history, else it might get confusing. Kukurutz is a term used for corn in Austria, and as you pointed out, used by german settlers in south east europe. The term is used to...

Possible that its unclean copied? Stabschef would make much more sense, and might look the same.

Re: Railroad Reichsbahn question
Most Reichsbahn passenger waggons had electric heaters in 1939 and earlier, 1 small in every cabin. Unsure if any Reichsbahn still heated with coal or so. Maybe in some cattle waggons, that were used in 44-45 for evacuation purposes, or for KZ and war prisoner transports. Reichsbahn had more than a ...

Re: Update of Server / Forum Software
Fresh new look, but still the Feldgrau feeling. I like it, thanks for the effort! Just missing the "new posts" "active topics" etc. buttons. Some bug on my side, or they are removed? If removed, would be nice if only temporarily. Edit: Sorry, found it! If anyone else is wondering...

Re: Abwehr in Vienna - location
Hello! From what i read it could been located in Hetzgasse 2 back then. It is a building from 1900s and was a Telephone / Post Administration before the war, and today its (what a coincidence) the location of "Abwehramt" from austrian Bundesheer. Abwehrstellen in general might be hard to t...

Hi! Best would be you give us the original text or picture and we have a look. So far it does not really make sense, maybe you mixed up some information or the translation was wrong. What would help too, the month or year when it happened. The information you have direct at 2 different places for my...

Re: What unit is this?
Hi Hambone! Here is my guess: #1 Leichtes Bataillon (light (infantry) batallion). Pretty unprobable, the term was common in ww1, but outdated in ww2. Also it would have a "B." for batallion, and another "batallion" outwritten right after it. Uncommon too. #2 Luftschiffer-Bataillo...

Re: aircraft fuselage markings KG 26 (white band)
This was done to identify friendly machines in the air. During air battle over britain, germans colored whole nose or parts of the wings yellow, to make it easier to identify enemy or friend in short time. Of course for the enemy this was practical too. Later in war the markings became smaller, usua...

Re: A Sentence and a Word.
I translate it word by word, so you get the meaning of it. But my english is not A+, so you might come up with an even better translation afterwards. 1. It could be attacked only for a quarter hour because of the ongoing enemy fighter defense. "Jagdabwehr" assumes that it was most probably...
